vercingetorix Posted April 30, 2006 Share #1 Posted April 30, 2006 Could anyone either post a picture or direct me to a link that shows the proper spare tire hold down for a series I z? The one I have I got on e-bay and is not right, either the hold down piece is wrong or the 'T' screw is the wrong size. I cant get it to fit so that the top of the screw is below the deck so the fiber board wont sit down.Any help appreciated.Best,H Houghton Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/19841-spare-tire-hold-down/ Share on other sites
Arne Posted April 30, 2006 Share #2 Posted April 30, 2006 I strongly suspect mine is original, so I went out to the car and grabbed it for pictures. A bit of surface rust on it (no surprise), but seems to be intact and proper. Then again, I don't know for sure because my car has a 5.5" wide slot mag in the spare well, and so my fiberboard won't sit flush because of the rim. Gotta find a cheap steel wheel for my spare some day. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/19841-spare-tire-hold-down/#findComment-165560 Share on other sites
vercingetorix Posted April 30, 2006 Author Share #3 Posted April 30, 2006 That looks exactly like mine so I guess its the tire size, I will have to check, but I think the rim is right. Thanks Arne.Best H Houghton Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/19841-spare-tire-hold-down/#findComment-165567 Share on other sites
beandip Posted April 30, 2006 Share #4 Posted April 30, 2006 it's the tire size , mine is the same way. Some have used a smaller spair . Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/19841-spare-tire-hold-down/#findComment-165575 Share on other sites
moonpup Posted April 30, 2006 Share #5 Posted April 30, 2006 If the top of the "T" screw is above the plane of the deck, you probably have the wheel facing the wrong way . Check and make sure the outside face of the wheel is facing down in the spare compartment. texasz Posted April 30, 2006 Share #6 Posted April 30, 2006 Mine looks the same and fits alright, though I have the good ol' steel wheel as a spare. The board does not fit quite flush due to the tire width though, it's a bit wider than stock. Note: on mine the issue is the tire, not the rim.
