How to Seal Cowl Vent to Blower Motor?

Recommended Posts

Before I put my dash back in, I'm trying to put my fan against the firewall after installing the Honda blower motor. I put it in to see how much of a gap I'd have between the top of the blower motor & the vent hole in the cowl area. I attached it into the car & screwed it fully into place. There's definitely a gap there.

I guess my question is what type of material can be used as a gasket to ensure both durability and a tight seal to maximize air flow through the vents? What was on there was some type of rubbery gasket sealant type (don't know how to explain it) that was pretty thick. Instead of using another type of sealant similar to what was already there, I'm hoping someone has some experience in doing a better job on this. Thanks

LOL Dumb dumb, plumbers putty.....are we working on the drains in the house or are we working on a classic Z car? How about good old foan type gasket material. What size gap are you talking about anyway....1/16", 1/2", 1" ??? Don't get me wrong, the guey stuff would work really well but I just had to laugh......Dumb Dumb! LOL Kinda of reminded me of some people I work with!

Hi Danny,

I used a product called radiator tape or a/c tape. Got it at a local shop that does air conditioning work.

I cut strips long enough to do the job, then cut those strips in half lengthwise. Then doubled them up to fill the gap. I tried the foam weatherstrip stuff from the hardware store but it just didnt meet my standards.

Good luck to you.

Chris
