stewsjunk Posted May 28, 2006 Share #1 Posted May 28, 2006 I found a nice little 73 240z today. It came from the original owners who both passed away and there son sold it to liqidate the estate. It has sat garaged most its life. It had a crack free dash. The spare tire well I could pour cereal in and eat out of. Super solid car with only a pinch of rust on a fender that I will replace. It had 73k original miles on the clock. The kid said it developed a cam issue...not sure what that was.......didn`t care. It was his wifes car. She passed and he was restoring it and fell ill. It sat for years just not finished. I will do the car justice and return it to its old glory. It still has her personal plates on the front and back which I will keep with the car in a hidden spot under the carpet. It is in unreal condition. 500 bucks!! Thank you Jesus!! I have a question..would you guys armor all the old dash or do what to preseve it?? Nigel1943 Posted May 28, 2006 Share #3 Posted May 28, 2006 It must be really boring for you guys in the US being able to pick up 240's like this. It's well nigh impossible in the UK. Best of luck to you. archiele Posted May 28, 2006 Share #5 Posted May 28, 2006 Thats the same price I paid for my '73. My best friend is moving and wasn't able to take it with him so I offered him $500 for it and as soon as I get it out here to NY will start restoring it. Virto Posted May 28, 2006 Share #7 Posted May 28, 2006 I like that you'll tuck her plates away in there. A lot of people pick up cars from estates where the owners have passed, and they simply smile at thier good fortune and remove any trace of the human touch that these (or any) cars had during thier long ownerships. She sounds like quite a find. I hope you get her back to showroom condition easily and swiftly. And I really respect what you're doing with the plates. You've got some real heart to take just that extra step. sakijo Posted May 28, 2006 Share #8 Posted May 28, 2006 Nice find. Good intentions. Armor All? No way! The stuff actually dries out the dash if you don't continuously apply the stuff. I personally use silicone based products on my vinyl, plastic and rubber. lonetreesteve Posted May 28, 2006 Share #9 Posted May 28, 2006 These bargain project cars seem to be coming out of the woodwork lately.... I'm just glad to see that the vast majority of our fellow members always try to restore the cars rather than part them out, then send what's left to the crusher. Here are a few more projects that are going for bargain-basement prices....well, the last one might actually fit the part-out and crush mold beter than restore, even though the seller says: "Great fixer upper for the collector, NO DEALERS PLEASE" : http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-Z-Series-1972-Datsun-240z-260z-280z-z-240-Nissan_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6187QQitemZ4644462481QQrdZ1 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-Z-Series-240-Z-DATSUN-240-Z-HATCH-BACK-COUPE_W0QQitemZ4644261265QQcategoryZ6187QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1973-Datsun-240z-good-project-or-parts-car_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6783QQitemZ8068663000QQrdZ1 http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail.jsp?tracktype=usedcc&searchType=25&paId=176758080&pageNumber=0&numResultsPerPage=50&largeNumResultsPerPage=0&sortorder=descending&sortfield=PRICE+descending&certifiedOnly=false&recnum=13&leadExists=true&criteria=K-%7CE-ALL%7CM-_65_%7CH-%7CD-_2998_%7CN-N%7CR-10000%7CI-1%7CP-PRICE+descending%7CQ-descending%7CX-antique%7CZ-80124&aff=national Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/20199-still-good-deals-out-there/#findComment-169010 Share on other sites

Any that are left have been restored and fetch mega bucks. 240 in OZ Posted May 30, 2006 Share #11 Posted May 30, 2006 If the single PO had used only armour all on the dash from new, and applied it regularly you would be OK. I assume this dash has been sitting in the car and in an untouched state as you describe the car as you found it.Unfortunately, what ever you apply, there is a good chance that this dash will crack, either on removal or when it is exposed to the sun.Regular application of a single product is the key to dash preservation.
