ddezso Posted May 29, 2006 Share #1 Posted May 29, 2006 I am constantly poring over parts catalogs looking for any missing pieces to make my 70/71Z as complete and original as possible.I grabbed my new Black Dragon catalog and saw something I hadn't noticed before. Take a look at page 24 in the Rear Bumper section for 70-73 240Z's. Part #'s are 98-052 and 98-053. They look like rubber pieces that slide under the ends of the rear bumper. I have been all over looking for pictures of 240Z's and can't find any with such a part. What are these things and are they and original part?Thanks.... ddezso Posted May 29, 2006 Author Share #3 Posted May 29, 2006 What year(s) do they belong to? The catalog lists 70-73 but I'll bet they've been wrong before.. Pop's Z Posted May 29, 2006 Share #4 Posted May 29, 2006 There are no rubber end caps on my 73(build date 6/73). There are some rubber pieces between the bumper and the body, but they are small and go over the fastening points on the bumper ends themselves. They don't look like those in the Black Dragon cat. Hope that helps. Cheers, Mike Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/20219-rear-bumper-end-caps/#findComment-169140 Share on other sites
a7dz Posted May 29, 2006 Share #5 Posted May 29, 2006 Mike is right there are no end cap pieces on the early ones. I will have to get the parts CD out to get to when they changed. And the rubber pieces do belong between the bumper and the body. Good call Mike Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/20219-rear-bumper-end-caps/#findComment-169141 Share on other sites
Alfadog Posted May 30, 2006 Share #6 Posted May 30, 2006 If they are the same part as I think, there was a topic here about them and their use (so that pedestrians' clothes wouldn't get caught on the bumper!). I thought they were standard equipment on Fairlady Z-L's in Japan... but can't find the original topic.edit: Still can't find that topic with pictures, but I quote Alan Thomas from THIS topic:All Japanese-market S30-series Z cars had the extra front corner rubbers on the leading edges of the rear bumper. This was a large C-shaped piece of rubber that had a slot moulded into it - enabling it to be push-fitted between the bumper corner and the body of the car. This was designed to stop pedestrians being 'hooked' by a passing Z in Japan's narrow backstreets. I think they work very well and give an extra mount for the bumper which is sometimes useful. Don't know why other markets didn't get them too. Hopefully the same part as you are talking about. 240 in OZ Posted May 30, 2006 Share #7 Posted May 30, 2006 Out of interest, these parts are indeed shown in the HLS30 parts book from Nissan. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/20219-rear-bumper-end-caps/#findComment-169185 Share on other sites

AZ-240z Posted May 30, 2006 Share #9 Posted May 30, 2006 These rubber end caps were not installed on my 1/71 series 1 car when I purchased it new from the dealer, FWIW.
