1977 console with slot for a choke lever?

Recommended Posts

Guys,

I just received a new console from Courtesy Nissan (part number 96911-N4725) for my '77 280Z and noticed it has a slot in the top of the console, right where a choke lever would attach. But since 280Z's are fuel injected there is no choke lever....

The console came with a plug in this slot, but it's still pretty obvious it's there. Courtesy advertised it on their web site as fitting 1977 & 1978 280Z's--no other years listed. I'm trying to keep the car as original as possible so I don't want to put in a part that's obviously not correct.

Any ideas about why the console has this slot? Was this used on early '75's?

Thanks,

Bob

My 78 has that slot with the plug and it was purchased from the original owner. The part number you list if for 8/76-up. For whatever reason, Nissan kept the choke slot that was present in the earlier versions even though the 77-78 were the only ones that has the console lid and box.

Also they used the same one for 2 seaters as well as 2+2s and the two seaters have a blanking plate where the 2+2 would have a rear ashtray. Also they had blanking plates in them for the parking switch, fuel warning lignt, as well as the choke lever so this was just a multi use, multi market console.

This information is good to know since I tried to sell the console I have for a late model 280, the potential buyer got all butt-hurt when he saw the choke lever slot. Haven't heard from him after I sent him pics.

I have had a hard time getting the cables set up properly though. O think my return springs on the crarb is to blame. It seems to me the cable does not pull the cable far enough.

Question for you 240 owners... do you need to operate the choke when starting your car when cold in the summertime?

If I am going for an original look I would turn down the slot edition. I would only use the counsole with the slot if there were no other options. To each his own. Out for the weekend.....have a sunny one:classic:
