susanelaine Posted June 29, 2006 Share #1 Posted June 29, 2006 Just found this site while I was searching for parts for my Z. Hope you will have some advise to help with my search. Right now I'm looking for a gas cap . Car Vin # HLS30-08404 8/70. While the car registration says 1971 the car was actually made in 1970. From the information I have gathered there was a change made with the gas cap that year and I am apparently looking for a needle in a haystack. It is no longer made so I am looking for a used one. Any suggestions? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/20605-hello-new-friends/ Share on other sites
MikeW Posted June 29, 2006 Share #2 Posted June 29, 2006 Welcome to the club. I have an extra gas cap that I can send you. The extra cap does not match what's on my car so I'm not sure which is correct for yours. The attached picture shows both together. The 3 screw holes line up so it will probably fit any 240Z. 26th-Z Posted June 30, 2006 Share #4 Posted June 30, 2006 In Mike's picture, the top cap is correct for an 8/70. The one without the metal tab - thumb tab. The cap with the tab is much later - 4/72.The cap without the tab came in two varieties; without a chain and with a chain. 17251-E4101 and E4102 The cap Zhead is refering to is E8800 or E8801 with a chain.
