What would be that advantages and disadvantages to using POR-15 on the outer and inner body panels? It becomes VERY difficult to sand...not that it cannot be done, just that it is extremely laborious and time consuming. This is where their GOOD properties actually work against you.You CAN use their Tie-Coat primer over the POR to give you a base to accept either paint or additional primer, but to me, the limitations in how you can apply POR (Brush preferred) makes it a major DON'T for exterior panel work. beandip Posted July 6, 2006 Share #3 Posted July 6, 2006 first of all POR-15 is UV sensitive , for inside the car and under it no problem . It just turns hazy. The main problem is it is so hard when cured it is difficult to sand . If not sanded properly regular paint or primer will not bond to it after it is cured. It will simply peal right off. Before you try it , paint something and let it cure and try to sand it . Now if you are going to do a small area like a engine bay , do use the recommended preparation and paint the bay and before the POR cures and is still tacky shoot your primer . It will bond to the POR then. The makers of POR has a primer called ti coat that will adhere to the por paint. I used this on my engine bay and so far ,almost 3 1/2 yrs , all is good . cremmenga Posted July 6, 2006 Share #4 Posted July 6, 2006 I'm in the process of PORing every inch of my car, with the exception of the outside of the panels, It is great stuff. my recomendation is buy the quarts bc the gallons is just to much to work with and risk spoiling it! a7dz Posted July 6, 2006 Share #5 Posted July 6, 2006 As was said above it is very hard to sand and gets harder the longer it cures. I used the POR patch to fill some rust thru pin holes where I could not get at the back side and it did a very nice job, yes it does sand but it is really tough stuff. I too will use the ti coat primer over it. I do not want to take a chance and get the paint peeling off later. Too many hours invested to mess up over a quart of primer.Do read and follow the caution notes as this is really nasty stuff.
