suburban homemaker gets her wild life back with her rebuilt 280Z

Recommended Posts

I bought my 1977 280Z when I graduated from college in 1982. It's a blue two-seater, dead stock, 4-speed, with dealer installed factory sunroof and rear-window louvres, in great condition. Also has Japanese market rear amber blinkers, stock in Japan but not in the US. We put it in storage 11 years ago when I was pregnant with our second daughter and couldn't fit behind the steering wheel anymore, and obviously couldn't put two child car seats in it. My wonderful loving husband, who knew how much I missed driving my Z, rebuilt the engine this last winter, did some other minor repairs and now it's back on the road again and driving great! The engine had 162,700 miles on it at the time of rebuild. There was zero wear on the crank journals with cross hatching still visible on the cylinder walls and it sounds ferociously good. I frequently take it out to cruise the country roads (think the comic strip "Rose is Rose" and her motorcycle persona) with the stereo blasting and a huge grin on my face. We are looking forward to painting it stock blue this winter and showing it in next year's Sherwood Oregon Cruise-In.
