Does my 1973 have an electric fuel pump?

Recommended Posts

Some do and some don't. In most cases, I think they were added later as one part of a possible 3 part fix for vapor lock issues the 73 cars experienced as a result of the change to the so called "emission" carbs commonly referred to as flat tops. Mine has one and it is mounted on the left side just in front of the fuel tank.

My car has one in front of the gas tank. I must admit to being confused when I found it, as I had already seen the mechanical pump in the engine compartment. Both seem to be hooked up, which i find suprising, but apparently my car went through all the fixes for vapor lock.

If you have the heat shielding on the fuel lines around the engine, then you probably have or had the electric fuel pump. The wires are back there for it. COuld be the PO had it, but when it stopped working they just removed it.

Could it be that you have the Mechanical Fuel Pump and therefore no need for the Electric, unless as Mike pointed out, you had Vapor Lock issues?

That it is of a certain manufacture month is indicative but not definitive that it would / did have an item / option as part of it's construction.
