Welcome to the site! If you think you're doing it all wrong, just do a search and you'll probably find lots of useful information. I've been restoring my Z for 2 years and I'm still doing lots of things wrong.

Why dont you post some pics of your car in your gallery, and show what you've done so far or what shape its in.
