TXZ1956 Posted September 12, 2006 Share #1 Posted September 12, 2006 The 71 240z I have has a Datsun hood ornamate (wasn't my idea, PO). It will be gone no matter what cause it just looks...uh, light in the loafers. I'm just curious if this was an option or just the original owner's bad taste. I know he installed the Datsun indash AM-8track form a 1970 Datsun wagon. Just wondering about the "gunsight" on the hood, thanks. 240ZX Posted September 12, 2006 Share #2 Posted September 12, 2006 Mike, Datsun originally install a round DATSUN badge on the front/center of the early Z hoods. It protrudes about .250" but does not look like a gunsight. Many people remove the badge because it just clutters the clean lines. Hey, maybe the PO was an old wing gunner in a flying fortruss and wanted to remind themself of the Good-OLE-Days! EScanlon Posted September 12, 2006 Share #3 Posted September 12, 2006 Other than the standard "hamburger" Datsun hood emblem, there wasn't anything that resembles a gun sight. Why not post a picture? It would help us envision what you are talking about, and might make Bill jealous. As far as the 8-track, don't just discard it. Believe it or not, if it's operational, you might be able to sell it.2¢E Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/21541-hood-ornamate/#findComment-182143 Share on other sites
sblake01 Posted September 12, 2006 Share #4 Posted September 12, 2006 Does it look like this? If so he got it from an early 80s RWD Maxima. My 810 has the second one pictured. =Enigma= Posted September 12, 2006 Share #5 Posted September 12, 2006 Stephen, I like the one with Datsun spelled out. Not something I would put on my Z but still cool. The emblem on my 73 seems kind of plain to me. I'm not sure if it was painted from the F...actory anything besides black but I was thinking of painting it using the Datsun colors of red/wht/blu or the colors of the Datsun griffin or whatever that thing is called. You know, like the creature you see on some of the Datsun keychains..... sblake01 Posted September 12, 2006 Share #6 Posted September 12, 2006 I've got those. On key chains, shift knobs, etc. Here's a lapel pin that's on the corner of my garage computer monitor. It's rather small so the pic isn't that clear. I didn't feel like dragging out the good camera. EScanlon Posted September 13, 2006 Share #7 Posted September 13, 2006 OH SURE! Tease us with a blurred image that might be a Datsun Rampant Lion or a PEUGEOT and expect this group (well, me!) to just... Tell you what Stephen, since you've banished that lapel pin to the garage, what if you send it up here to Vancouver, where I can pin it on my hat! By the way, it's a LION in both of those logos. The GRIFFIN has a BEAK and WINGS! See the following pics... E Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/21541-hood-ornamate/#findComment-182193 Share on other sites

TXZ1956 Posted September 13, 2006 Author Share #10 Posted September 13, 2006 Naw this thing is Datsun and it stands a lot taller than a quarter inch high. Got to keep the 8 track for now....it has an FM 8 track cartidge adapter in it so I can hear the local FM stations. Waste gunner on a bomber...the original owner was a retired AF pilot in his 70's, you may be right. Maybe it is a kamikazi sight, who knew? sblake01 Posted September 13, 2006 Share #11 Posted September 13, 2006 Now that one I've never seen. As far as the griffin or lion pin, the pin broke off of the back years ago so it's stuck on the monitor with double sided tape.
