nealkeith Posted September 15, 2006 Share #1 Posted September 15, 2006 I just insured my 260Z and BMW M6 with Hagerty Collector Insurance, saving myself about THREE THOUSAND DOLLARS a year! I can't wait to tell Geico to kiss my behind! Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/21581-saving-huge-amounts-of-money/ Share on other sites
c david Posted September 15, 2006 Share #2 Posted September 15, 2006 yep,i had hagerty insurance for a year and they are a great option for collector cars that are not being driven more than 3k a year. the company has a very strong presence and large market share of collector car owners. alas, i drive my car everyday (60 plus thousand miles in 3 years); so i use statefarm.cdavid Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/21581-saving-huge-amounts-of-money/#findComment-182518 Share on other sites
daddz Posted September 15, 2006 Share #3 Posted September 15, 2006 Classic car insurance certainly is the best known thing to any hobbyist. It makes this hobby alot more affordable and hassle free when coupled to a DMV that will issue historic plates which exempts emissions and the other hassles of registering a car.I currently use Parish-Heacock and there is no mileage limitation and that is a standard feature with no extra cost. Darrel Posted September 15, 2006 Share #4 Posted September 15, 2006 There are stipulations even with the unlimited mileage. It cannot be a daily driver and can only be used for pleasure or car club events. daddz Posted September 15, 2006 Share #5 Posted September 15, 2006 Darrel,Ture. I forgot to mention that but they don't mind if you decide to take the car on a cross-country trip which is also a nice feature for those that like to participate in long distance vintage events such as the New England 1000 and such. It cannot be a daily driver and can only be used for pleasure or car club events. And therein lies the problem for me. When I restore a car (like my current 240Z or my previous MGB), I drive it when it's done. A lot. In fact, with the MG, it was my daily driver for over 4 years. And I've yet to find collector insurance which will allow that. DougN Posted September 15, 2006 Share #8 Posted September 15, 2006 There was another thread on this subject, where we discussed how much you could drive your cars if you had various companies collector car insurance. Most all now allow unlimted mileage, including Haggerty. The determination seems to be on whether you are required to drive the car, or whether you are driving the car for pleasure. At Carl Beck's recommendation, I talked to Bob at Haggerty, and confirmed that I can drive my 240Z and MGB as much as I want for pleasure and still be covered. The main requirements seem to be that I have a garage to keep them in, and that I have a "normal" car (insured by a traditional insurance carrier) that would be considered a "daily driver" regardless of whether I drive it daily or not.
