Hi all from DFW TX, just picked up a clean 82 280ZX with 126K, I could not get it to pass inspection too high of HC & CO. How here the deal pull all the plugs and only 2 was carboned filled, so I put new plugs & wires. It runs fine ( I think ) smooth and it don't smoke, could it be 2 injectors that is not operating correctly. I am in the process of running a threated tank of injector cleaner thru it whis week, I say I think because this is my first Z and the horse power is a little different, all my past restorations are Pontiac GTO's, so does this now make me a Ricer.

Hi and welcome to the club. No Z's are not ricer's. No fart can mufflers and no stupid aero kits that make you look fast.

Use the search feature on the upper tool bar input vairables like: smog, inspection HC & CO. There have been several good ideas and suggestions to help members pass their inspections.

Yeah, the SeaFoam is great, and I've been pleased with the RedLine Fuel system cleaner. Both are about $6-8, depending on where you shop, sales and the like. I installed NGK plugs after reading some advise about plug choices, and the engine seems a bit happier with them instead of the Bosch Platinums. Check all your vacuum lines, dizzy connection-plug wires, etc., and try it again.

Welcome to the site, nice to see your trying something different (though GTO's are nice)

I did the Seafoam treatment today (smoked like a freight train, will run the treated das out in a few days and I will change the plugs back to NGK because Autozone sold me some Denso brand last week and I tryed to return then but that all they had. I hope this solves my problem so I can get it inspected and move on to the hail dings and re-paint. This is also a issue it is the factory metalic brown 114 which appears to have a slight hint of burguny with red interior and I would prefer to paint it a dark burgundy, not that the brown is not that bad of a color.

Thanks all, great site
