Hi guys, 1971 240Z. Just fitted the stock air filter assembly and love it!....except it is scratched and showing signs of its old age.

I would like to refinish and paint it. If I have it media-blasted, can I get all of the original stickers to put back on it?

Also, is the sealing gasket still available?

I think I saw an old post about the original color, so I know others have done this, but I just really want to know if it is safe to media blast, or should I use chem paint stripper, or hand sand...?

Would it look good chromed? I am gonna have to have the bumpers re-done anyway, and thought chrome might look good for that custom touch.

whaddya all think?

Regards,

Astro

Chrome is personal preference, I don't care for it, but others do.

Chevy engine orange is really close, probably close enough for most any normal car.

Decals are available from several places. For example - http://www.zzxdatsun.com/decals.html

I think someone has the paint available. Can't remember who though.

Chrome is a personal preference thing. It can look good. But what about the back of the air box? The part that faces the engine. There are lots of hose fittings and small tight areas that are hard if not impossible to do by machine so the chrome shop will have to do it by hand $$$$$. BTDT

If you have a local Powdercoater, check out their stock colors. When I was having my suspension pieces done I noticed the orange color below and compared it to the existing paint on my air-cleaner, my eyes couldn't tell any difference.

They sandblasted and powdercoated the air-cleaner for $50, their min lot charge.

On this subject; What about the blue that I see on some cars, especially on Fairladys. Is the light blue a common color? I know that the orange was more common but I was just curious because I would prefer to do mine in the light blue vice orange.

This has been discussed before. Here's the most recent thread that I could find:
