Well, deciding how many to have could be difficult. Especially as the 'correct' answer may differ depending on when a particular 240Z was built. And I suspect lots of them are MIA by now. I looked through the gallery and found pictures that show no hooks, hooks on the one side or the other, and a few with hooks on both sides.

Judging from my car - which is original all the way down to the 35 year-old spark plug wires, and unlikely to have had an second hook added - as well as a few pictures in the galley, I feel safe in saying that two rear hooks appears to be correct for late '71s, if not others as well.

Nope. The recently released version is 2.0.

My car is a one owner mostly stock car and I have two tie down hooks on the rear. One large tie down on the left, and one small one on the right. Not a great pic but you can see the position and size of the lerger hook on the left.

My red '71 (7/71) is also effectively a stock, one owner car, and both of its hooks are like Enigma's right side. From the pictures I linked to earlier, looks like the left hook grew larger in '72.

Here is a thought...

All you guys with Tie Down Hooks on your 240-Z's know one thing for sure... The Selling Dealer's service department didn't do it's job. They were supposed to be removed by the Dealers prior to Deliver of the car to it's first owner.

Not really a part of the car - they were packing fixtures, much like the plastic wrap on the door panels or around the seatbelts...

The Tow Hook on the other hand, was actually part of the car.. and was to be left in place for delivery to the end consumer.

So if your 240-Z came from the Dealer without it's rear Tie Down Hooks... it was delivered as intended by the Factory.

So.. for Pure Stock Class... if you leave the rear Tie Down Hooks in place for show - then IMHO you should also leave the plastic covers on the door panels, the seat belts wrapped/bagged, and the hubcaps boxed in the rear... along with the Pre-Delivery Inspect Report (not filled out of course)...

Carl, that is so "correct" it is beautiful!. It could be interpreted a few ways, but I love itLOL . It certainly is a new avenue for the show car owner who seeks to provoke thought on the perception of "originality"....how far do you go?

Thank you Carl! I wasn't aware of that. Makes total sense. But it also makes me wonder what other prep steps the dealer that originally sold my car skipped!
