This is a new experience for an old 240Z owner. I owned my first 240Z from August 1971, when purchased new, but sold in 1976. I have owned the current 240Z since November, 2003. It is a 1973 purchased new from Nissan in Japan in August 1973 by an Australian working in Japan. It was shipped to Australia in 1974 and owned by that person until 2003. The material that the original owner had included the original Estimate, Purchase Order, Sales Note and Receipts from the Nissan Motor Co., in Tokyo. Every conceivable document since then has been retained.

The 1973 240Z is a blue Fairlady, in very original condition. It has the original windscreen, with factory "stamps" on side windows - as they would have been when delivered.

I tried to attach photos of the two Z cars, but not successful.

Hi Jack and welcome to the site.

Always great to hear of someone who had a Zed coming back to the fold - how many times have I had someone say to me that they are a former Zed owner and wish they still had their car.

Not too many people would be able to say they purchased a 30+ year old car and have ALL of the supporting paperwork. Sounds like a rare machine in more ways than one. Tell us a little more about its condition and #'s etc.

Where are you situated in Australia - Zed owners can be a little isolated over here and it is good to be able to connect with someone who lives in the immediate vicinity.

Welcome to the Club, I'm sure you'll enjoy yourself here!

When I first signed up, I too had problems uploading. The problem I had all was resolved when I scaled down the image file size. I've not had a problem since. Maybe that will help.

Sounds like you have a unique one there, not only because it is a home-market car. Yes, please tell us whereabouts you are in Aus and also would love to see those pictures. Hopefully the smaller file size has meant I have attached the photos this time. The orange car is the 1971 original and the 1973 is the one I now own. If you look closely you will see that the registration plate (New South Wales Australia) is the same on both cars - BBQ-240. This was obviously the plate fitted to the 1971 car when new, and all that I could "find" of it when I purchased the 1973!!

The 1973 car is a Datsun Fairlady 240Z-L; Model HS30: Chassis No.: HS30-103407. Engine No.: L24185588.

I live in North-West New South Wales.

Those are beautiful, glad you were able to get them posted. Now, if you go to the USER CP section, you can go about loading photos into your personal gallery, and load a photo to use as your Avatar. I'm sure everyone here would like to see all that documentation, and your photo gallery is the place to show them, and preserve them for posterity...

Woooaoowww! That's incredible! The '71 looks amazing (wonder how it looks now?), and your Fairlady 240Z is impeccable. I would love to see that car some day. That's a real beauty. Very few good S30Z's are still in original condition in Australia... Wow, ok, I can't get over that car. Would love to see more pictures.

P.S. Technically your blue car is a Nissan Fairlady 240Z-L, not Datsun. But I'm sure you know this!

Welcome to the fold. That's a beautiful car! I have to say that I am very jealous of those OEM headlight covers. Man what I would do to get my hands on a set of those......... :love:

I tried attaching some of the documents relating to our blue 1973 240Z. Nissan repeatedly refers to the vehicle as a Datsun Fairlady 240Z in these documents. Unfortunately the scanned documents were too big to attach. I will try again another time.

I'm not sure that is technically the case... It is quite possible that the original purchaser, knew he was going to send the car home to Australia - and did indeed purchase an Export compliant "DATSUN" 240-Z. Many US Servicemen did the same..

According to the info that Alan supplied some time ago - VIN's were in the same series for the Export and Domestic 240-Z's (HS series) - but each were within known blocks. The JDM Nissan Fairlady 240-Z VIN's stopped at HS30 103262.

Seeing as though you have all the original docs, what's the paint code on

that? Looks like what mine is supposed to be and as am halfway through being ready for respray still deciding if going this original colour or that nice metallic blue you see on a lot of mazda 6's and the sp23's
