New Member Intro and Question????

Hello, I just joined the Classic ZCar forum today. I currently live in Kansas and have always liked Z cars. I have only owned one in my life. I bought it i 1978 with 3000 Miles on it from a Datsun dealer who was driving it as a demo. It is a 1978 Limited edition with Black Pearl paint. I still own the car today but havent driven it in a few years. It still runs and for the most part has been kept indoors. My goal someday is to restore it to its original show-room condition.

My question for the experts is what would be the cars value be today?. It has 109,000 original miles. The interior is in relatively good shape, needs new paint ect.

Another question is what would be the cars value if restored to original showroom condition? Also can anyone tell me how many of these cars were made and how many our still around today???

I could be wrong here, but I believe the Black Pearl cars were (are) fairly rare. You may have yourself a little gem there, albeit a niche gem. The thing about Z cars in the collector car market, they are much like the MG or Triumph: ther are plenty of them to choose from, even after all these years. It doesn't make them any less appealing, in fact it may actually help the appeal. The typical example (as in my case) being; "Jeez, look at that old Z. I used to have one when I was "X". Sure would be fun to have one again..."

103K miles, solid shape - $3,500.00 to $4,500.00 depending on the overall condition.

Fully and correctly restored to "as it left the showroom" condition - maybe $18K to $20K.

Cost to fully restore it - maybe $25K to $30K plus a year or so of work.

The usual number used to define production is 1000. Nissan only said that each Dealer would get at least 1. Larger Dealers got five or six.

You only restore a car yourself if you can afford it and you enjoy the process of restoring it. If you do a near perfect job, and spend the money necessary to do that - it usually takes close to 10 years before the value of the car reaches the level of money you've spent.

If you can afford BOTH the time and money, and you will enjoy the process of restoring it yourself, then enjoying owning it for the following years - then have at it!
