Hi new to this forum,I joined because you seem to have a good bit of knowledge about the hitachi SU carbs. I am doing a bit of a different project here, actually a different make, but still a vintage japanese car. I am building a custom manifold to install a set of the (what I believe) are the round top SU carbs. I bought these on ebay, for 150 bucks. they are supposed to be off of a datsun 510 sss. they came complete with the manifold. these are going on a 1986 honda accord hatchback, the 2.0 litre one. the last generation of accord hatches too. sniff. anyway I am still trying to identify exactly what I've got here. I assume the round top carbs are the ones with the rounded edges on the dashpot, and the square top ones have the flat edge? these look like vintage brittish SU carbs, except for the Hitachi on the fuel bowls. I will post a picture shortly. they look to be in pretty good condition. he claimed these came from a running car,but one of the linkage tabs was actually outside of the throttle tab,so it couldn't have been running too good. :ermm: other then that, they look in really good condition, the inside of the fuel bowls are spotless, and they just look a bit dirty from sittiing. still going to rebuild for safety and reliability. the reason I'm putting these on my car,is not only for more power, but to get rid of the impossible to fix, computer controlled(no diagnostics) nightmare of a carb. what were the engineers smoking that year?:( anyway any help would be appreciated. I will post a couple of pictures of the carbs shortly. one more question, one fuel bowl has a 1/8 npt fitting, and the other has a banjo fitting. i can convert one to the other pretty easy, but maby someone needed a fuel bowl top at some point in time?

Remember there was also a 1600 and 1500 roadster. Not sure about the 1500 but the 1600 had 38mm carbs.
do you know off the top of your head what the jet number would have been for the 2000 cc roadster? if I install that jet that would be an ideal match for the engine these are going on. any ideas on the float bowls? they look identical but the tops are different. I'm running braided line as much as possible. I think I'll just convert the oddball one to 1/8 npt. that way I can run two braided lines to my fuel rail I'm making in the center of the manifold.

ok one more dumb question, are you supposed to be able to level the float bowls, then lock them in place? or are they supposed to free float? if they are supposed to stay in one place, the bushings are probably worn out. can probably make mounting bushings from scratch if needed. I really would prefer to set them level since I'm going to be using braided line, and it's not as flexible.

ok I went to Z therapys site, for one thing these are suposed to be a rare carb due to the drains in the float bowls. it's possible from what I've seen these could be 2000 cc roadster carbs. I need get my digital caliper out, disassemble them, and take a bunch of measurements according to the site. I'm going to be sending the bodies to them anyway to have the roller bearing throttle shafts put in. seems like a good idea considering how much time and effort I'm putting into this project.
