I read the News paper article and Specs on this. They were trying to pump it up not to long after Earnhardt died.

Never mind the "Drivers Safety" rant. There is nothing that can't be done to a current racer with a little Engineering to make it just as safe.

Another Excuse to be Cheap

and FINALLY destroying what was supposed to be,

"STOCK CAR RACING".

ALL THUMBS DOWN

Those are NOT STOCK CARS...Those are nasty cars....For real stock cars look to Great Britian or on the European side of the world or the Aussies and in N.Z. but in the US of A we race NONSTOCK CARS .A stock car IS A STOCK CAR......Make the cars are they come from the factories or not at all....NASTY CAR sucks....

So whats knew about NASCAR car not being stock :stupid: Have you all been sleeping under a rock? Shoot, they're pretty much a spec racer if you ask me. From what I understand, and this is above and beyond all the safety improvements, the sanctioning body is trying to change the cars to simply provide better racing! If you look closely at the front of the COT NEXTEL Cup cars, the front is almost identical to the front of the trucks, splitter and all....interesting how developement from the ranks filters around!? IIRC the COT cars are heavier than the last design as well. Change is usually a good thing....time will tell. I know I haven't watched any less NASCAR races due to rule changes! Just my take on it.

As for not being stock cars, the same goes for those "trucks" which aren't trucks, but cars with a longer & flatter rear deck. For real truck racing, go to Europe, where they modify real trucks and race those, although they won't be going 100+ MPH, but real racing, IMO, is NOT about outright speed, it's about strategy & maneuvering, and sometimes luck.

You might be better off with drifting or street racing... or lawnmower racing :lick:

On the other hand... If it's supposed to be the "car of tomorrow" why aren't they racing with fuel cells? If you can go the 500 miles (or 400 even!) you Win! I'd like to see a hydrogen cell go up after a rear-ender. :D

thx

These things look a lot like rice to me! :ermm: :hurt:

Here: is an interesting article

also here

So, let me see if I understand your post correctly.... you basically just don't like the looks of the COT cars. Looks are so subjective anyway! Keep looking at the COT cars....you'll get used to it...just like everyone else will! And as someone once said...its not so much what you race but, rather the race itself.

I don't have anything againt the looks of the cars. They can race in soapboxes if they want to.

We will have to wait and see how things are at the end of the season, or a year from now. The first thought I had, seeing the first pictures, was that they were going to try front wheel drive cars with all the ricer stuff on it.

Hitch hiker's guide?

I like to watch road rallies, lemans or European Touring car racing better. They turn both ways.

Or yacht racing even- except for the big black kiwi boat that keeps winning all the time. :)

Tom-

At first it looked like rice. After you look into it some, you can see there's purpose behind all that stuff ( or at least they think so.) hopefully, one day, they will learn to do more than just go around in circles.
