Arne Posted April 2, 2007 Share #13 Posted April 2, 2007 I'm 6'4" and concerned about fitting in the car comfortably after I replace the foam and webbing. I'll remove the spacers from the bottom of the seat frame but I'm also thinking about making a revision to the hinges. The amount of recline is limited by the size of the oval in the hinge, (see picture), I'm thinking about opening up the oval about a .100". My concern is that the seat-back will hit on the luggage riser just behind the seat. I'm going to do the trial and error thing on the passenger seat to see if it works. You could also use the recliner mechanisms from a '72 or later car. I have a set that I am considering refurbing (read clean and paint) for my car. They have more recline motin back, plus allow the seat back to tilt forward to allow better access to the toolboxes and such behind the seats. astrohog Posted August 11, 2008 Author Share #14 Posted August 11, 2008 I am such a procrastinator!!!! (check dates on these posts!)I finally got around to covering my drivers seat and replacing the foam!!Just wanted to share that I found a VERY EASY and relatively inexpensive alternative to the underseat webbing. Believe it or not, I used two-sided (hook on one side, loop on the other side), 2" wide Velcro!!Found it at my LOCAL hardware store. just cut to length, slide through the metal loops on the seat frame, and stick to itself!! If I get it too tight, I can just loosen it up to my liking!!!I actually used 1" wide that I found in my shop to see if it would be strong enough, but I can and will get 2" from the hardwre store (2" is a special-order item).I will try to get pictures when I get the correct width installed.Hope you all find this a handy way to do the webbing!!Regards,Astrohog Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/23804-seat-restoration/?page=2#findComment-256076 Share on other sites
Poindexter Posted August 11, 2008 Share #15 Posted August 11, 2008 I just noticed that my "original" seats, which I'm intent on replacing anyway as they're shot, do not have any vent buttons on the back. If this is within the scope of this thread, (so as not to begin *another* one on seats) can anyone tell me if they ever came that way in 2/71? Also has anybody any experience with the leather rebuild skins? Just trying to figure our which way to go. BTW- the tips on the elastic webbing are excellent. I'm 6'3" and was also worrying about the overall height of any rebuild putting my head through the roof. Still got that sunroof skin you cut off Arne? I might need it.
