jubin Posted April 2, 2007 Share #1 Posted April 2, 2007 I've seen many Zs without bumpers and I'm wondering what the laws are on that. Does it vary from state to state? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/23811-bumpers-needed/ Share on other sites
Zs-ondabrain Posted April 2, 2007 Share #2 Posted April 2, 2007 It does vary from state to state but I don't think it's a problem for the older 240Z's. I see more 240Z's without bumpers than WITH. Washington State says you HAVE to have your front licence plate showing, either in the window or on the front of the car.I plan on leaving my bumper off and installing 2 rubber bumpers like you see on the 300ZX or a Porsche style. It'll cover the bumper bolt holes in the rear and give the rear a little more definition. If you look in my gallory or to the left, you'll see I have split front bumpers. Every body knows that the 240Z bumpers are purely for looks. If you get hit, they won't protect a damn thing. It's roughly a "Beauty Bar"Call your local PD or state trooper and make sure you tell them what year it is.Dave. jubin Posted April 2, 2007 Author Share #3 Posted April 2, 2007 I have a 78 280z and I could not stand those big bumpers. (plus they were shot) I have a body kit and was thinking of just not worrying about a bumper. I'm also thinking about just bolting some steel onto the old bumper shocks and having it hidden being the body kit (if it will fit). Arne Posted April 2, 2007 Share #4 Posted April 2, 2007 Dave is right, check your local laws. I heard that at one time it was not legal in some states for the end user to remove impact bumpers from '73 or later cars. (Florida comes to mind, but don't quote me on that.) That may or may not be true now. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/23811-bumpers-needed/#findComment-204505 Share on other sites
