Diseazd Posted January 2, 2008 Author Share #25 Posted January 2, 2008 All it takes is money and a good bodyman! Guy Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/23968-total-restoration-project-71/?page=3#findComment-232813 Share on other sites
zpizzaman20 Posted January 3, 2008 Share #26 Posted January 3, 2008 Guy,Did you do the bodywork yourself or is there a decent shop in Richmond?Fred Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/23968-total-restoration-project-71/?page=3#findComment-232870 Share on other sites
Diseazd Posted January 3, 2008 Author Share #27 Posted January 3, 2008 We dropped the suspension and blasted and painted ourselves. Included was all new brakes, rotors, bushings and nuts and bolts. The rear quarter and front clip had been lightly hit in the past, so Chuck's Frame (he's done several restorations for me including a 1967 award winning 912 Porsche) is replacing both. That will leave the body with absolutely no rust and no plastic. He is also going to strip it to metal and paint the car BMW Platinum Silver. All mechanical and engine work will be done by me and my son. The Z Doctor in Roanoke is building a modified P 79 head which we will put on top of a totally restored L28 bottom end with flat top pistons. Both Chuck and Doc are in Virginia. Ttiger Posted February 26, 2008 Share #32 Posted February 26, 2008 I am blown away!Where do you find such clean cars to start with? The '71 was very nice even before you started! What do you use to blast clean the suspension?I'd be afriad to drive them after all that work, but they are meant to be be driven. Enjoy! Thanks Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/23968-total-restoration-project-71/?page=3#findComment-238661 Share on other sites

five&dime Posted February 26, 2008 Share #34 Posted February 26, 2008 The 70 came from eBay, the 72 from google datsun 240z for sale. We have been trying to buy the 71 forever. I saw it in someones back yard when I was riding a gokart around a friends neighborhood 14 years ago at age 15. I have found all the Z's for my pops except the white one. Even that one I made the offer before consulting with the pops ......... I think my mom is probably less enthusiastic about my efforts Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/23968-total-restoration-project-71/?page=3#findComment-238670 Share on other sites
Diseazd Posted February 26, 2008 Author Share #35 Posted February 26, 2008 Thanks JMARK and TTIGER. I bought the green Z from Amarello, Texas. The white Z was totally restored in Arizona and the Safari Gold Z was bought in Richmond, Virginia. We built the engine in the green Z , more or less to stock specs. The white 240 was rebuilt before I bought it, and I'm building a hot 2800 for the gold Z (see above pics). The gold Z has been stored since 1979( see 1979 inspection sticker on windshield ). As far as cleaning up the undercarriage, we sand blast everything, then paint with urethane. None of the 3 Z's has over 79,000 original miles. Some guy's have all the luck! Ain't it a great little car. Guy Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/23968-total-restoration-project-71/?page=3#findComment-238673 Share on other sites
