twsutt Posted May 1, 2007 Author Share #13 Posted May 1, 2007 76Datsun280z,Yep, you got it. That's the peice. Thanks for posting photos. And I agree with you that it looks like a homemade part - it doesn't have the fit and finish that everything else on the car has.Webdawg1,I wish that it were as easy as just bolting it up the only way that works, but with two bolt holes-and nothing blocking the raised part on either side of the front differential crossmember-the part can be attached two ways (four ways actually, but we wouldn't even consider placing the tall part downward.) webdawg1 Posted May 1, 2007 Share #14 Posted May 1, 2007 twsutt, I'll check when I get home tonight and see if I can see the outline of when it was actually bolted up to the bottom. (Read lack of dirt/mud/dead bugs/vermits/and lots of grease) () That's why I restated my comment about it being possible to install it wrong. v_balge Posted May 1, 2007 Share #16 Posted May 1, 2007 My 77 had similar piece. Very homemade looking with bad welding. It was loose and rattling around, couldn't find anything about it so i took it off.Vince Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/24151-whats-its-purpose/?page=2#findComment-207896 Share on other sites
76Datsun280z Posted May 1, 2007 Share #17 Posted May 1, 2007 In my second picture, do you think that's how they made it, or do you think it got bent? Dumb question, but don't see how it could have been bent unless it was under some real stress as that thing ways a ton. twsutt Posted May 2, 2007 Author Share #18 Posted May 2, 2007 Austen, I don't think that yours got bent, I think that they were put together haphazardly. Here's some pic of mine taken from the back of the car looking forward. 76Datsun280z Posted May 2, 2007 Share #19 Posted May 2, 2007 Thanks for pictures! That really helps show where and how it's mounted. I think I'll probably just leave it off as I don't really see much of a reason to put it back on, unless you guys think it's pretty crucial to have on there. twsutt Posted May 3, 2007 Author Share #21 Posted May 3, 2007 From what I can tell there was a design change in Dec. 1974. This is from carfiche.com. Does anyone know what the "ICA" column means?
