Caen Fred Posted June 25, 2007 Share #1 Posted June 25, 2007 Are not the same as on the manual! The needles are not the same I was told... Is there any benefit to retrofit the std needles on my l24 as I am runing a 6/2/1 header with a twice pipe...Just want to upgrade it before the l28 swap. I have set of automatic needles but have not taken the time to load them in the SUs. The bottom line answer is; they will work. beandip Posted June 25, 2007 Share #3 Posted June 25, 2007 I am running 54 needles in my SUs with a automatic. I did pick up a set of 3 screw SUs a while back and they had the #58 needles used in automatics. Now, these carbs came from Colorado and could have been used because of the high altitude. I don't know but the 58s are leaner. I was running 54 needles on my L-24 motor and now on my 280 ZX engine. I am also running headers and a street cam . I tried different needles and found the 54s work the best. SMs and 47s are WAY to rich and fuel diluted my oil in the crankcase with them. Now all is good both in performance and mileage . My 2cts. Mine run fine but are far from perfect. Eventually I will send a set up to Z Therapy for proper rebuilding and tuning. I will have them done up with automatic needles unless advise by ZT to do otherwise.
