mrcursed Posted July 8, 2007 Share #1 Posted July 8, 2007 Hi all, I've been looking for replacement for those "vent holes" / "vent buttons" on the back of early Z's seats. For the life of me I can't find anywhere that sells them on the interenet. I'm guessing there is an official name for those little vents that I don't know about. If any one can help me out on the name, or where I can find them I would be very greatful.Thank you. hls30.com Posted July 8, 2007 Share #2 Posted July 8, 2007 No clue on the proper name, but I have found similar vents at upholstery supply places, but they weren't close enough, so I have been cutting the vents out of early Zs when the upholstery has been bad, they normally need a rechrome, but at least they will be original...They simply crimp in...Will Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/24818-need-official-name-of-seat-vent-holes/#findComment-214452 Share on other sites
26th-Z Posted July 8, 2007 Share #3 Posted July 8, 2007 I just clicked on Les Cannaday's site http://www.classicdatsun.com/ The picture of the seat covers has them. Vent buttons would be a good name. I haven't ordered any from Les. Do they NOT come with the vents? ZSaint Posted July 8, 2007 Share #4 Posted July 8, 2007 I put a new set in my '71 and they came from Les and they had the vents. I bought them about 16 months ago. Bluuuuu ones! The set I had in the Z did NOT have the vents. Hmmmm? a7dz Posted July 8, 2007 Share #5 Posted July 8, 2007 The originals all had vents, so many of us early owners left them out when we had the seats redone. I went as far as having the center panels done in cloth not vinyl. Last week I received the replacement seat covers from Les and they do have the original style vents in them. The new seat cover vents are the same as the originals. For some reason there is an original vent from the driver’s seat still in the glove box all these years later. Along with a set of lug nuts that have never been on the car but, I bought them in 1973 before one of my cross country trips. EScanlon Posted July 8, 2007 Share #7 Posted July 8, 2007 One Z-legend (like an urban legend) says that some owners of those vented seats did NOT opt to have the metal vent buttons on new upholstery due to the instant "branding" one could get on a hot sunny day. a7dz Posted July 8, 2007 Share #8 Posted July 8, 2007 Took a lot of thought to go ahead and get seat covers with those offending vents once again. After not having the vents for twenty years.
