mally002 Posted September 8, 2007 Share #1 Posted September 8, 2007 Does anyone know if the 71 model had the round Z vent emblems or the 240Z vent emblem, or is either one correct. Thanks, Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/25462-quick-1971-question/ Share on other sites
Marty Rogan Posted September 8, 2007 Share #2 Posted September 8, 2007 Actually there is an early '71 and a late '71. The early '71 has the 240Z emblem and the late has the circle Z at the vent hole. The early '71 has the vents in the hatch instead.Marty Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/25462-quick-1971-question/#findComment-220921 Share on other sites

mally002 Posted September 8, 2007 Author Share #4 Posted September 8, 2007 Thanks Marty, I wasn't aware of that, No hatch vents on the car so it must be a late 71..... Randy Arne....send me one... Mr Camouflage Posted September 8, 2007 Share #5 Posted September 8, 2007 If your car has round holes in the quarter panels, then it should have the round vent badge. If there are no vent holes it should have the 240z badge (as the vents should be in the hatch). Carl Beck Posted September 8, 2007 Share #6 Posted September 8, 2007 Does anyone know if the 71 model had the round Z vent emblems or the 240Z vent emblem, or is either one correct. Thanks,Hi mally002:Using a general term like "71 model" - the answer to your question as ask - would be: One or the other of the two emblems you ask about, might be correct on any specific car.In order to get a more useful answer to your question - we'd have to know more detailed information about the specific Z, or group of Z's, you are asking about.1. What is the VIN.2. What is the Date Of Manufacture displayed on the Data Tag on the Drivers Door Jam.Rear hatch lids can be changed, holes in the rear quarter panels can be either filled in and/or covered up with the 240-Z Script Emblems. Who knows what some previous owners have done to any particular example over the past 37 years.FWIW,Carl B. mally002 Posted September 8, 2007 Author Share #7 Posted September 8, 2007 Carl,Thanks for the clarification, you make a great point. I just recently purchased a 1971 that has the round emblems and I didn't know if those were correct...I say this because it's whats pictured in the photo's I have, the car is in transit so I havent seen it in person yet. I will check the VIN, and build date and post it for more clarification. Thanks guys,Randy Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/25462-quick-1971-question/#findComment-220954 Share on other sites

mally002 Posted September 9, 2007 Author Share #9 Posted September 9, 2007 Hey Brian, Here are the pictures from the PO who sold me the car, I won't have it until late next week or the next....more like the next. I have been looking for an original Green FOREVER, and so I decided to take a chance on this one. From talking with PO it sounds like it's in pretty decent shape. He states very minor rust, surface only.....well see, and great running condition, althought it needs vent hoses. It was "restored" by a nissan dealer in 1987 I believe, but hasn't really been touched since then. I'm excited about the car, can't wait till it gets here. My Orange 73 will finally have a Big Brother. Let me know what you guys think if you see something out of the ordinary...I have thick skin, so let the comments fly..... Walter Moore Posted September 9, 2007 Share #10 Posted September 9, 2007 My 71 (Build date April 1971) has round vents in the side, and none in the rear hatch. So when they say "early" they mean really early. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/25462-quick-1971-question/#findComment-220989 Share on other sites
hd240z Posted September 9, 2007 Share #11 Posted September 9, 2007 My 71 (see sig) with 2/71 date also has the round vents in the side, and none in the rear hatch. So when they say "early" they mean really really early :laugh:Actually I think it is the series 1 cars that have the hatch vents and 240Z side emblems. The switch to series 2 was made between January and February 71 or there abouts. DougN Posted September 9, 2007 Share #12 Posted September 9, 2007 Congrats on the new edition Randy! I remember seeing that on eBay, and thought it looked nice in the pics. Did you get rid of the TR-6?? :classic: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/25462-quick-1971-question/#findComment-221030 Share on other sites
