the hoses are new, that's the thing (all fuel lines and brake lines were replaced before i got the car)

so i don't really want to cut them. There is a bit of slack, so would it hurt to cut off just barely enough to slip them off, then just use the slack to put it back on?

I don't think that there would be any problem with that, though I am concerned with something you said: "they are really stretchy." FI lines are interwoven with mesh and wire.

They do not stretch.

At all.

Do the hoses say on them "For Fuel Injected Engines"?

If they don't, they have fuel line for the carbie engines.

I have had some luck in the past with similar problems by spraying on some PB Blaster. It won't harm the rubber, and is able to sneak between the hard and soft lines.

It's worth a try, and if you haven't gotten any PB Blaster, you might as well get some-the stuff is great.
