Well I'm finally getting around to cleaning the engine bay of my car since I bought it (over a year ago) so I figured I'd throw up a few pictures. I know, it needs a wash, wax, and quite a bit of polishing here and there but there's only so many hours in the day (most of which are accounted for with school). Here she is in her present condition:

And a shot of the left side:

Right side (not as interesting, I know):

From the top looking down, left side:

And lastly, the interior (Not as clean as it has been, but not as dirty either):

It's a work in progress and I absolutely love it. Just put brand new pads, rotors, shoes, had it timed, fluid changes, and a new exhaust on (and that was expensive) and it is running excellent. The wiring for the tach is very different/confusing so I'm still trying to figure that out (have some great shop manuals) but overall it's a great car and definitely a lot of fun to tinker with. As you can see, the engine bay is quite dirty (how I bought it) but with about 6 hours of work and a lot of degreaser and paper towels I've been able to bring it back to life, sort of. I'll post some more pictures up when I can finally brag about the engine bay, but for right now it's a great driver and I'm perfectly content.

Mr.Woof,

Nice. But just wondering, does your air filters have the trumpets (air horns) inside? I does look like there is not much room there to have any, or if they are there, they are rather short height ones if you include the clearence also. See Toecutters pic. which is a current thread at the moment if you don't know what I mean by trumpets.

Cheers

Ian

Do your self a BIG favor and get some sort of shield between those Webers and the exhaust. I had Webers on my first 240Z. They middle one leaked gas on the header and burned up the whole car. I would never have them on one of my cars again, but others like them.

I agree, a heat shield or header wrap will help a lot (along with a return line so the fuel is kept cool at idle). But not having horns is a very, very big mistake. All you need is a 3/8 radius to make those carbs much better.

As to webers burning up, I can't say, but my 44mm Mikunis have yet to disappoint over the last 4 years. Pretty much set-um and forget-em.

I love the Webers. These pics might give you some more ideas.

BTW. I used the stock fuel rail with return line, stock mechanical pump, stock vacuum control valve and PCV system. I added an electric pump in the rear and rewired to keep the pump on while the engine is running.

The car runs flawlessly. I get it to 130MPH at tracks all over the South East US. I love the tunability of the Webers. I have a tackle box full of jets and venturis and all of the Weber tools. I use 3 fuel/air ratio meters with O2 sensor bungs welded into all 6 primary tubes(I occasionally swap them to check the other siamesed cylinder ports).

Thats a sweet looking Z. I love the pin strips on white.

Anything else that you have done to the car that we can't see? Sway bars, brake upgrades, ect?

Also, what are the advantages of using air horns? I thought that all they do was to change the sound a bit?

HELL NO! They make a huge difference! They make the air go into the carb the 'right way'...for lack of anything sounding scientific...without them, the carb doesn't work the right way, and I'm sure somebody else on here can reply and contribute more, but without air horns, you aren't letting the carbs do their thing, really.

BJ - I'd try running that triple set-up with much shorter horns (3/8 to 1/2-inch) and see how it goes. Your current set-up does not allow the rear horns a clear shot at the in-coming air. I switched when I installed the ITG fiberglass box on my Mikunis and it made a real difference.

Thats true. Thats also why the original air box had air horns built in (for su's). Ive always wondered something though...... does it make a difference in performance if the air horn is longer or shorter?
