JonnyRock Posted November 27, 2007 Share #1 Posted November 27, 2007 Hello,So I've been a member for a few weeks now, but have just finally gotten some pictures up so it's time to introduce myself. And my new lady.I've got a British Racing Green 1970 240z manufactured in February of '70. She's got 64k original miles on her and has been mine now for 2 months.I sold my first vehicle (a great '87 Toyota 4x4 Xtra cab SR5 that was lifted with off-road lights and tires) because I was looking for something more fun to drive. It had to be a RWD, preferably light, and with only 2 seats. After settling on an early 2nd gen MR2 (that sold from under me), I contemplated a Miata for awhile, but at 6'3 I found it wasn't right for me.I'd always loved 510's and the whole time I'd been looking for a new car, I knew that if the right 510 came around I'd buy it. Well while looking at craigslist postings, I happened upon my new Z. She was located in Salem, OR. It was 6 hours from me, but only 1 hour from my parents in Portland. So I had my dad go down and check it out (he's been a high school autoshop teacher for 25 years, and knows just about all there is to know about cars. Especially classics). He was amazed at the condition and price, so without even seeing it myself I told him to buy it.It's got a black vinyl interior in great condition with one rip on each seat, zero rust (save a small spot under the battery tray), the original 4 speed, and so many papers, receipts, and extra parts I had to buy three chest-sized rubbermaids. In the next month or so I'll be putting in a very nice sound system with the help of Dave (zs-ondabrain) and upgrading the entire electrical system. I plan to do a number of tasteful updates, while keeping it appearing mostly stock.I'd love to know what you guys think of her!JonnyRock's Z Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/26375-happy-new-member/ Share on other sites
e_racer1999 Posted November 27, 2007 Share #2 Posted November 27, 2007 welcome to the club! your car looks beautiful; i've always loved BRG on the Z and the gold rims set it off! DeMoore Posted November 27, 2007 Share #3 Posted November 27, 2007 Welcome to the club, she looks great! Glad you got a good deal on her. Hey, I'm from Bellingham, haven't been up there in about 15 years, I was very young, about 10, when I lived there. I've been wanting to move back, but I just got married and my wife has a strong aversion to moving into a town where it actually snows. So I'm stuck in LA until I can convince her to move. Again, great looking Z, I'm sure you've begun a life long obsession with the Z, but it happens, dont fight it! JonnyRock Posted November 28, 2007 Author Share #4 Posted November 28, 2007 Thanks guys. Yeah, you can't beat the classic sports car look of the Z. Never expected to own one, but I'm very glad I do. It's one of those cars that you just have to glance over your shoulder at a few times after you get out. sblake01 Posted November 28, 2007 Share #5 Posted November 28, 2007 Welcome. I was born in Portland, Oregon though I haven't lived there since 1955. Still have family there though. Yes, I'm old....but anyway, nice Z. I think Datsun called that color 'Avocado Green Poly Metalic' if that's the original code 113 green, but most people do refer to it as British racing green. JonnyRock Posted November 28, 2007 Author Share #6 Posted November 28, 2007 I think it was originally color 113, but she was repainted BRG in '93.A few more notes about her.Since being painted, she's been driven less than 5000 miles, so the paint is in amazing condition. She's got an aftermarket ASC elctric sunroof. It was designed to go into a lincoln, but looks and works great (up until 2 weeks ago, I'm working on it).I'm the third owner. The second owner had her for 25 years and converted her back from dual Webers to the Hitachi SU's. DatsunZsRule Posted November 28, 2007 Share #7 Posted November 28, 2007 "The second owner had her for 25 years and converted her back from dual Webers to the Hitachi SU's." The second owner made a smart choice there IMO. Welcome aboard. Carl Beck Posted November 29, 2007 Share #11 Posted November 29, 2007 For 1970 the "Green" was #907 and Datsun called it Racing Greenhttp://zhome.com/History/colors.htmlandhttp://zhome.com/History/ZColorGallary/index.htmlLooks like a very nice Z to have.FWIW,Carl B.Carl Beckclearwater, FL USAhttp://ZHome.comZ's..several510 Station Wagon... love it!! JonnyRock Posted November 29, 2007 Author Share #12 Posted November 29, 2007 In that case, it may have been repainted #907. I'll have to check the receipt. Yep, I have the receipt from the paint job 14 years ago. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/26375-happy-new-member/#findComment-230165 Share on other sites
