My 240Z....Headed Off For Paint!

Recommended Posts

love the JDM grill!!

Thanks. It's not permanently mounted yet....I've been trying to decide whether to stick with it or go back to the OEM grille.

It looks a little cleaner and it is different...I've just been trying to decide which grille I like better.

Steve, did you find that the mounting points lined up with where your old grille attached?

Either my front end got tweaked at some point, or the mount points for the grille are off by a bit. The old grille fits, of course, but then again it's not exactly straight, either....

Hi Brian,

Only three of the five mounting points lined up well--the bottom middle one, and the two on the top upper corners. Even those two required some tweaking. The bottom outer two mount points weren't even close. But, when it's all installed it's nearly impossible to tell unless you're obsessive or within a foot of it, so it's not a big deal.

What are you using to buff/polish after your wetsanding?

Obsessive? Over a Z car? I resemble that remark.....!

I didn't do the buffing myself, the guys at the shop did that after they wet sanded. Some of the other guys might have some recommendations on what kind of buffing compound to use, though....

I use 3 compounds total cost of $90-110. 3M extra cut for removing 1500-2000 sand marks. Then 3M swirl mark remover followed my 3M finish it or finesse it. Afterwards I hand wax with Mcquires gold carnubeau (sp?)

I also use a variable high speed buffer. Usually buff at about 2000-3000RPM. I use a tericloth pad for the extra cut, then a coarse foam pad for swirl mark and a fine foam pad for the final compound
