Car Dropped Off At Body Shop!

Recommended Posts

Rented a small tow trailer and dropped my car off at Williams Auto Body this morning. Now comes the 8-10 week wait...

Showed William the light rust area I found and he will contact me after they have stripped it down and can see it better.

Next I have to finish getting the engine ready to take to Rebello in about 2 weeks.

If you don't mind me asking...what is Rebello going to do for you specifically and how much is going to cost.

Ah, the anticipation.....I dropped my car off at the body shop last month, and luckily got it back from them already. Being without your Z is absolute torture.

My wife thought I was insane, by the way. I wasn't as smart or thinking as far in advance as you were, so I more or less duct taped my brake lamps onto the car and drove it down to the body shop. Came right through a speed trap on the Blue Ridge Parkway on the way down there (I took that route, ironically, thinking that it would keep me out of trouble), but they just waved at me as I went by....

Be sure to post before and after photos!

Good deal, sounds like she's going to get fixed up!!

I know you mean! I've haven't been driving my Z for a little over a week npw because I'm getting the rear bumper rechrome. I sure miss driving her, but the GTI is fun too.

I'm doing their lowest cost upgrade. Basic rebuild / bore-job where they make my L24 into an L28 with a mild performance head. Everything replaced on the head, all new bearings and seals below. Magnafluxed, etc.

With exception of the machine work, nothing I probably couldn't do myself. Difference is I'm sure they do a better job...

With this upgrade I should get slightly more performance than a stock L28, but am told it will still idle smoothly. According to their web site it should produce approximately 200 hp with increase in torque to about 195 ft-lbs. Gas mileage should not change if I can keep my foot off the throttle. *grin*

Quoted cost was approximately $3,500, complete. Of course, it could go higher if they find something wrong. A bit pricey for me, but it's actually pretty reasonable for a "quality" engine rebuild. My buddy just spent $5,000 for a mild performance rebuild of a Ford V8. I figure it will be worth it, since I plan to keep the car till they carry me out in a box or the DMV tells me I can't drive anymore...

...ah the optimism at the beginning of bodywork. I remember it well! 8-10 weeks was what I was quoted. Then eight MONTHS (and 100% over estimate but 30% over budget) later my car was back home.

I hope you do not have the same experience.

BTW, you're very lucky to have Rebello near you. It's like the Sahara here for import engine rebuilding...

Ahhh Rebello will make your motor sing :) I recomend Dave quite highly

he did mine a couple years and 12,000 miles ago and ive had no problems

at all...if my motor had its way, it would just scream along at 4000-6500rpm

all day long :)

Enjoy!
