I ran the 205/45 R16's but the ride was too harsh. I ended up with the 225/50ZR16's on 16 X 7.5's and the ride is nice, quiet, softer yet tight enough for hard cornering.

I just picked up the 225/50ZR16's from Discount Tire Co for $75 each. They are Riken Raptor ZR's and I'm liking them so for, and you CAN'T beat the $300 for all 4 pricetag.

I would stay away from wheel spacers because most people forget to periodically retighten the spacer because it is behind the wheel. Although Arne is correct that the selection is very limited for wheels that just bolt up to our Zs without going to 2 or 3 piece wheels. The cheapest direct bolt up wheel I since lately is the Sportmax 002 in 15x8 for $113 each. Then again if you are looking for top notch tires the selection is getting scarce in 15". I have 17" wheels on my Z (check my gallery) and it works for me, not to say it is for everyone. Do what makes you happy.

I placed an order for my wheels 3 days ago and it was for the Work Equip 01. Here are the specs:

(F): 15 x 8 / -3 offset

®: 15 x 9 / -3 offset

I was going to stick with the "0" offset but Work no longer offer these wheels at zero offset.

Everything you said is right but I you got one thing wrong problely by

mistake.

The more Positve Offset you have the closer the center off the wheel will

come to the rim lip or face of the wheel.

The more Negitive Offset the more sunken in the center of the rim is as

Everything he said was right, you just didn't get what he meant.

He meant that if you run +ve offset wheels on your Z, you wil get the battleship look. Ie, the wheel will be sunken in to the wheel well, compared to if you were running the same wheel with 0 offset.

I've seen the "Battleship" term used alot to describle the look on Z31 forums. Probably because battleships are wide at the deck and narrow where they meet the water. So i suppose they applied it to cars that were wide, but with skinny or recessed wheels.

I just thought it was a common American slang term, Guess I was wrong.

It's a 240ZG, well a 240 with a G-nose anyway. Once you enlarge the picture you can clearly see 240 on the fender tag.

My thoughts as an ex-tire/wheel guy. The facts first, then personal opinion.

OPINION - I believe many people go too wide for normal use on these cars. For daily driving, 7" wide is more than enough, and most people overlook the narrower tires for their bigger wheels. For 15" rims, consider 195/65-15 or 205/60-15s instead of the more popular 225/50-15s. Or perhaps 205/55-16s instead of 225/50-16s. Or 205/50-17 instead of 225/45-17s. All of the sizes listed in this paragraph are similar height to the stock tire sizes for an S30. (The 195/65-15 is a small touch taller, the 225/50-15 a touch shorter.) But with mostly stock suspension (i.e. no coilovers or adjustable control arms and tension rods) the wider tires will not add much, and can actually detract from the daily drivability.

I tend to agree w/ Arne, but I'm no expert on wheels and tires. Depending upon tire availability, on my 15" panasports I plan to run no wider than 215's, but am really thinking of going with 205's.

Regarding my selection of panasports, it's not nostaligia, I just like the way they look. I also considered the slots sold by MSA, but the panasports won out in the end.

15x7 Volk TE37's, 0 offset, with 225/50 tires. Super light wheels and there are still a good amount of 225/50/15's out there. The lighter the wheels the better the feel of the car is imo. With a good sticky tire in that size your z will handle well enough on the street to get you into plenty of trouble with the cops and have enough sidewall to absorb the small bumps the stiction does not allow the sus to get.

That is the rational choice for the best handling for a non-track car but I tend to be a little irrational. I would love a set of 17x9 with a -12 offset and fender flares with 255/40's all around.
