Need a Bit O' Help Doing Something I Don't Want To Do

Recommended Posts

HI everyone, I'm here hoping you guys could help me out a little... I've just recently been put in charge of a 70/71 240z that I have to sell... I can't afford to keep it, and my work truck, and I need to work. Everything (I think)on the z is original, it has the tool kits, manual, little rubber parts that cover the spare tire bolt etc. I believe it's been re-painted before, but that's the only mod I can tell has been done. The body's completely rust free, under floor mats etc. There is one dent that will take some work, but other than that it's damn near perfect. Odo. is -80k What is a fair asking price for it???? In a range between x><z ?? Any help would be appreciated. And please be fair and refrain from making offers.

Thanks, C...

$4,500.00 to $6,500.00 based on your description.

To be "near perfect" - the dash can't be cracked, the seats can't be torn, the car has to run and drive out very well. The small dent can't be bigger than 2", and in an easy place to fix. The repaint has to be the original color.. and the engine bay has to look pretty clean..

You can't tell if the car has rust issues unless you jack it up and inspect it underneath. You really need to Post some pictures that show the details of the car.

FWIW,

Thanks for the reply Carl,

I took some pictures today and they should be up in my gallery... if not try this link: http://www.flickr.com/photos/21797957@N08/

So, I can only find minimal surface rust, the dashboard is solid except for a small tear below the glove box( see pics), the seats are tear free and solid... everything except the clock works... the antennae even goes up and down with the flick of a switch??? stock?? The big dent is the rear left that took out the marker light, and I noticed a small dent on the hood today... again, I think the pictures should point it all out... I'ts a California car, in the Bay Area... 6500 too much to ask?? Thanks again for the help,

Corby

P.S. I gave this car a tune up today and took it down the coast a bit... hahaha these cars rip. I had alot of fun... and just once or twice thought " maybe this car should only have four cylinders! " haha

I agree with Stephen, here on the West Coast you'll be hard pressed to get that much out of a car as you have pictured it. Assuming the floors, frame rails, battery area, etc aren't seriously rusty, maybe $4000. If the floor pan(s) is (are) rusty, maybe $2500-3000 at best.

Thanks guys,

I new I could count on you to give me the straight shot... I've always been into classic cars, and it's always a fine line between fair and finance. I don't want to screw anybody, and your helping that... I'm also going to get whats fair on my end... so end result= everybody's happy.

Cheers... and I'm hoping this doesn't sell for a couple weeks... ye-haw :)

Before you set the price, do yourself a favor and get the car up on a hoist to inspect and document the underside with pictures (floors, framerails, wheel wells,etc.). If they are solid and the rust on the inside of the floorpan is just surface (could be), you can move you asking back up towards $5k.

Good point. Experienced 240Z buyers will assume hidden rust unless proved otherwise. So the more areas you can document as solid will allow higher asking prices.

The drivers armrest appears to be held on with a nylon zip tie. There are a number of dings. With the taillight region being the toughest one to repair. $3000 might be reaching. But still, it isn't a parts car either. It is early as evidenced by the 240Z b pillar emblems. It is otherwise clean. It appears to have suffured the old defered maintainance solution. In the right hands the car could be a gem. In the wrong hands it will be a daily driver that becomes a parts car as soon as the first break down comes along.

Too bad you cannot keep the car. Your responses seem reasonable and you have this site as a resourse. No chance?
