Hella H-4's vs Stock

Recommended Posts

Narva makes bulbs in may applications/configurations. They are German and good. At some point if your wallet can afford it you might think about the HID auxillary driving lights. They are used here in the states in off road racing applications and the light output is nothing short of amazing. Nice thing is that the tubes are only 35-55 watts and the stepping transformers draw a lot less power than conventional lighting technology. Durability is supposed to exceed anything else.

Hella seems to be the leader right now in this application, I'm sure others will follow.

Nice comparison of differing Hella HID models:

I don't have my hopes up too much on this one but I'm SURE it's gonna be far superior to the stock lighting system. Also any links to these "retrofit" kits for my car? Most Z owners might not care but lighting is a LARGE concern of mine especially since I drive all country roads. I wouldn't have even thought of spending that much on some lights until after actually having used HIDs for a couple of months, you just can't go back to standard lighting. :(

Your Narva supplier should be able to help.

They are usually listed as "severe duty".

Mightn't be available in Aus. Fellow rally club member is owner of a local Autobarn and advised all globes the same. Will post onto local rally board and see who bits?

Local Narva site doesn't list severe duty, is this just a terminology thing?

Hey H4,

Both Hella & Narva are German made, on the surface it appears that both are excellent quality, so how do they compare?

The DL on the zed are Hella pencil beam, after reading the Narva Cat, I'm left wondering if the Narva wide beams wouldn't be a bad choice to complete the front lighting rail. After all, globes are globes, but are the reflectors the same?

Opinions please!!

The only severe service globes they show are the #48888 "heavy duty" ones in 60/55. If you are happy with the current Narvas I would say don't fix what ain't broke.

Globes do vary in quality, ie. filament alignment, base alignment, etc. For examples of tests go to;

http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/front_index.php?cp=1

and click on Product Test and next click on either H1 or H7 bulb. Amazing differences from what are considered equally good manufacturers. Most all the german manufactured bulbs are of excellent quality.

I am not familiar with the beam pattern from the Narva's. If you can see them both lit up you will get the best idea of their performance.

Mike,

Here you find info -in Europe- about Narva and Philips lamps. There are priced in Euro’s, one Euro is about the same value as one US$.

If these lamps are not available in your country I’ll be happy to try and get them over here.
