Best product to remove paint on trim?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

The interior on my car is black but notice a few place where the black is peeling.

The original color was blue and still seem to be in very good shape. So would like to remove the black paint on the trim (which have been change color very well) without damaging the original blue color?

Anybody can give me a hint on this?

Thanks in advance,

Joce

Can't say for sure if this will be safe on vinyl, but for overspray I've used contact cement remover - worked great on enamel paint oversprayed on rubber. I wouldn't use too much or rub too hard though - it's fairly potent.

I would first try washing them in plain old soap and water.

If the stuff is starting to peel, it may well remove larger pieces and minimize the amount of clean up left.

Contact cement cleaner is excellent stuff, but as it's been pointed out ... IT'S STRONG!

Try Mineral Spirits (Household Paint Thinner) after the soap and water, then go on to the stronger stuff.

Was thinking using "final wash" thinner. (this is use just before painting a car to remove any grease left).

But was wondering if it would be too strong...:paranoid:

Probably strat with the soap and water.

Anyone had ever use final wash thinner?

Final Wash sounds like "Wax and Grease Remover" which is basically the last substance you wipe on and off the car prior to any kind of painting. It is a highly refined and filtered mineral spirits (although there are other components in there).

In my opinion, that's probably the mildest of the liquids mentioned.
