Is your Z 'done'? Post here, if so.

Basically I am finished putting my Z back together (I almost said "restore" then though better of it. Resurrected would be a better description...)

Anyway, the thing runs REALLY well, and I drive it more than I intended to when I started. But it will never be a daily driver. The rust monster lurks too closely here for that.

About the only things left that I will eventually finish are to replace the windshield, door gaskets, and dash lights. But really none of those things are high priority. The crack in my windshield is not in the driver's "field of view" which is the legal test in this state, so I could leave it alone indefinitely. All of the important dash lights work except the temperature and oil pressure gauges. And so long as I avoid automatic car washes the door seals aren't really an issue.

I confess that I have been making up excuses to drive the Z. In fact, I just returned from a "quick" trip to the grocery store...:cheeky:

To "completion"-

OEM-

Re-web both seat-bottoms, install one OEM seatcover from another '71- using details, pix & info from Arne and others

Install new antenna

Repair clock?

new exhaust gasket- still eminently drivable, just sounds/hisses like the little engine that could.

Complete new weatherstripping install

Paint touch-up

Remove & reinstall badging for complete compounding/polishing before putting her up for the winter.

Aftermarket-

Install variable thickness (2-10mm) sound/vibration padding throughout tub and inside doors & interior panels, reinstall existing old diamond vinyl and carpet

Install Dave's headlight & parking light wiring harnesses

Install OEM-appearing fog and driving lights w/associated wiring/relays/switching

Since I have driven her a LOT lately- including several trips of 500 miles recently, I think she's pretty close.

I have way too much to do to my Z. I probably won't start making her all nice and pretty for several years (maybe more, basically whenever I get access to tools and a garage) for now the plan is just get her to pass emissions. I ordered a new exhaust to replaced the crushed one (crushed down to under 1in o_o) and I need to buy a bunch of vacuum lines to replace a lot of old ones I found (which are most likely causing my lean issue) if thoes dont' fix it, I'll have to see just how well I can fudge tune her to pass emissions.

so for the most part, once I get her to pass emissions she'll be "done" in the sense that I'll be able to DD her. Possibly for the first time in almost 20 years (I haven't found any evidence to show that she's been driven much after december of 1986)
