Troy,

Welcome aboard!

Where in Ontario (I assume Canada, not California) are you?

A bunch of resources you can use...

1) Keep an eye on the classifieds here...

2) Keep an eye on the classifieds on zcar.com...

3) Ontariozcar.com has classifieds...

4) Check out the ebay seller smokin-geez . He is just outside Montreal and has a bunch of Z's pulled apart (contact him directly as he has much more than is listed on Ebay)...

5) If in the GTA, get in touch with Greg or Mike at Whitehead performance. They specialize in Z's and have knowledge of things that are "out there". Might even be a tank in their racks...

DO A SEARCH ON THIS SITE FOR THREADS ON TANKS!!! They are not as interchangeable as most parts on the early Z's...

Good luck and good hunting!

Welcome to the club and congrats on getting the Z!

The best course of action would be to ship the tank off to one of the Renu franchises. If you get a used tank then chances are that it will eventually have troubles. There are also lots of discussions of gas tank restoration in the archives. A search of "gas tank" would yield a few hours of good reading.

FWIW

The 280Z has a screen on the pickup tube which will get clogged if you try to clean/repair/seal the tank at home.

Here's a page I made for my 240's gas tank resto...

http://warbuddies.homestead.com/gastank.html

NOTE 240Z tanks have no filter screen.

Be VERY careful when handling your tank or raw fuel. This is not to be taken lightly. An accident could end or severely change your life.

2c

Jim

Theres also the Ontario Z-car club. That website has a classified section and the members can help direct you. Their website is ontariozcar.com

Hey, tell me a little bit more about where you got it. Where did this car come from? Did you get a title with the car or just a bill of sale?

The ministry can re-title the car if you bought it from someone who actually owned it, and I know they have procedures to deal with that type of situation.

Also...what number are you giving the ministry. Check the number on the top of your DASHBOARD, and match it with the number stamped onto the FIREWALL on the inside of the engine compartment. You may be giving them the number from the ID plate, and it may be wrong, or they may be looking at the engine number not the VIN.

VIN numbers are located on the dash, drivers door jamb, engine bay id plate, and engine bay firewall drivers side.

Let me know what you find.

Welcome sliprenoodle! Zak covered it well. There is one other thing that you didn't mention. Was this car brought to Canada from the US? If so and you don't have a title and only a bill of sale you will need to get the US Customs to clear it by stamping the export paper they will issue. Normally they want to see the car, but it is possible to fax them the information and they will mail it. Then the MTO will except this to issue you a title. I did this several years ago. If it is from Canada and you only have a bill of sale, I believe you need some form or document notorized by a lawyer.
