GregP Posted November 7, 2008 Share #1 Posted November 7, 2008 Anyone try this automatic shift knob for sale on EBAY?I was thinking of getting it to replace the worn original knob. Just wondering if it really fit all that well. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140274408157&viewitem= Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/29906-new-style-auto-shift-knob-for-240z/ Share on other sites
sblake01 Posted November 7, 2008 Share #2 Posted November 7, 2008 That may say "Nissan 240Z" shift knob in the ad but it's looks kind of universal (and rice-ish) to me. Personally, I'd steer clear. mikewags Posted November 7, 2008 Share #3 Posted November 7, 2008 I'd steer clear just because of how it looks... (ugly little sucker) Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/29906-new-style-auto-shift-knob-for-240z/#findComment-265724 Share on other sites
Mike Posted November 7, 2008 Share #4 Posted November 7, 2008 Yea, it looks pretty universal to me. Might not be designed to fit perfectly. The description says it also comes with an overdrive button... hmmm.. Arne Posted November 7, 2008 Share #5 Posted November 7, 2008 On the other hand, that 'overdrive' button could be wired into who knows what. Could be a handy but unobtrusive place for a foglight switch, or ???? Mr Camouflage Posted November 7, 2008 Share #6 Posted November 7, 2008 Could wire it into the kick down switch so you don't need to mash your foot all the way to the floor to make the car drop a gear Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/29906-new-style-auto-shift-knob-for-240z/#findComment-265732 Share on other sites
GregP Posted November 7, 2008 Author Share #7 Posted November 7, 2008 What I would really like to do is adapt the manual type knob to it. Give it a more period look without the big T handle which is really badly worn. sblake01 Posted November 7, 2008 Share #10 Posted November 7, 2008 IIRC, it was from some type of Chrysler product. Rather large, sort of oval shaped like the knob in my wife's HHR. Seemed to look out of place...IMO. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/29906-new-style-auto-shift-knob-for-240z/#findComment-265759 Share on other sites
TomoHawk Posted November 9, 2008 Share #11 Posted November 9, 2008 Thanks Will- I used the shifter knob from a recent model Dodge Intrepid ( or Stratus, etc.) because the button is on the front instead of the top. The shifter knob from something like a Range Rover Freelander, which is a little smaller ( about tthe size of the wood manual shifter knob), but I can't get one from a JY, and the Whole assy is over $200 from the dealer, and they won't tell you what makes it work so I won't be getting one at $200 just to look inside. 240ZGL Posted November 10, 2008 Share #12 Posted November 10, 2008 If you look at the rest of his store, he has the same knob listed for a Lotus Europa. There was never an auto Europa, or a Lambo Miura, or a Ferrari F50 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/29906-new-style-auto-shift-knob-for-240z/#findComment-265926 Share on other sites
