...snip...if using POR15 you should spray the primer on the POR when it has just started to flash off. This is because it is like a rock and as stated it is hard to sand.

...snip... I personally would not por the whole engine bay. Too much work and not worth it.

According to their website, and my own use, it's no longer necessary to sand fairly new POR. Very OLD coatings do need it however.

See the first paragraph here:

As to the second item, how much prevention work you choose to effect on your car is a matter of personal choice. As your last sentence states, to some it is too much work, where to others it is necessary work. What that amount of work is worth is up to the individual, but it is priceless years down the road.

Whether it is Zero Rust, POR, Rust-Mort, or whatever other product that may exist, the important part is to protect the metal. The metal in the Z is too far prone to rust to short change that process.

Geezer.... PPG DP90LF is what I use for epoxy :) Great stuff!!

I've got to admit it. I am out of touch with the industry and PPG products now and defer to those more knowledgeable and up to date. I am biased towards PPG products and have used them for a long time. Part of the reason for this is, before I retired I went to lunch regularly with a PPG rep who kept me current on the latest products and evaluation of them. We used to share a company patio at MIS for the CART races. I was given the hats & T shirts and other handouts all the time, so how could I not like PPG?LOL

PPG is an excellent line, I really really miss the old Ditzler paints. Granted there are newer product formula's out there which do a fine job, but the ease with which you could use/repair/patch/match etc. all of the Ditzler paints, and the primers.... loved it.

I've been using OMNI simply as a result of cost savings. There ARE better, and more expensive products out there, but for DD's, excellent line. Easy to work with but most importantly, inexpensive enough that mistakes aren't deal breakers.

I had my engine color mixed today as well as the light blue for the 75 on up air filter box. I hope to paint some tomorrow and will let you know how the color matches to the original. I will be using Dupont enamel with hardner should be better paint than original. I also noticed when preping and sanding that they did not use a primer and just painted right over bare steel.

Look for more changes on the horizon with heavy industry and small shops alike making the transition to waterborne systems. Just a matter of time before government legislates lower VOC emissions, making it nessesary for paint suppliers to eliminate current products. That's a good thing, but as always developing technologies cost more. Then you will be really really missing the old OMNI line.:(
