alhbln Posted November 24, 2008 Share #1 Posted November 24, 2008 I want to remove the emblems for a full cleaning and paint buffing. Front and rear logos are no problem, but how do i remove the "Datsun" front fender and "Z" rear quarter (air vent) emblem on both sides? From below the car i have access to one of the clips of the front fender emblem but the second one is apparently not so easily accessed.Do i need to remove the inner panels to remove the "Z" rear emblem? Thanks,Adrian Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/30068-how-do-i-remove-the-front-fenderrear-quarter-emblem/ Share on other sites
sblake01 Posted November 24, 2008 Share #2 Posted November 24, 2008 The pillar emblems come off from the outside. All you need to do is pry them off gently with something that won't mar the paint. Mr Camouflage Posted November 24, 2008 Share #3 Posted November 24, 2008 Front fender DATSUN emblem is retained by 3 spring clips. You need to get to the back of the fender through the wheel arch with a thin screwdriver and bend the clips away from the pin, so that they can slide off. If your not careful you can snap the pin off.If you cant get to them you can unbolt the lower edge of the fender, that should give you enough play to pull the fender away from the body to get to the other clips. There's an inner mud guard panel that may be able to be removed on the 240z. I think it was welded on later S30's. I cant remember if the bolts were on the wheel side, in which case you can get to them, or the other side, in which case you cant. TomoHawk Posted November 24, 2008 Share #4 Posted November 24, 2008 Thanks for the information. I would like to redo the gold resin for the Z, but I'm not to happy about the way the PO "stuck" the emblems on. The hatch and hood emblems were attached with double-sided tape, and pulled off a big pieces of paint, so I don't think I will try the fender emblems until they pass the 'dental floss' test.It would give me a chance to get those fender bolts out to restore those too.thxZ Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/30068-how-do-i-remove-the-front-fenderrear-quarter-emblem/#findComment-267301 Share on other sites
sblake01 Posted November 24, 2008 Share #5 Posted November 24, 2008 Depending on the type of double sided tape used, it can be removed, without damaging the paint or the emblem, by carefully applying heat from a heat gun. I know from experience that this works with the 3M Acrylic Plus attachment tape. TomoHawk Posted November 24, 2008 Share #6 Posted November 24, 2008 I'm pretty sure the problem was more with the cheap paint job, because even the sheet magnets (bumper stickers) have pulled off paint.
