Help: Should I buy this 1971 240z?

Everybody is telling you to either very careful and thorough in checking out the car, or find one outside of the rust belt. I'll add find a member(or members!) close to what ever car you locate, and get them to have a look with you. Most Z guys look for a reason to go look at another Z!

I would take a floor jack... 4 Beefy jack stands... a bunch of extension cord..

A good drop light and a creeper.... Check the rockers and whole bottom of the car.

Floor pan... oil leaks... damage....

If the car can't tolerate jack stands just forward of the rear wheels.... walk away

Pass on this one unless you're willing to undo questionable bodywork (and the surprises underneath) and track down some slightly pricey parts - like both bumpers and mounting hardware, rear panels and tail lights.

According to an identical thread posted by blueshark123 on hybridz.org he is no longer interested in this Z.

Apparently the seller purchased this Z in it's current state some time last year for $600. He soon tried to sell it for $1000 and when he didn't have any takers I guess he raised his price! Also someone claims to have checked it out and it is not rust free at all.

Yeah there was rust everywhere on this car. Nice waste of 5 hours on a beautiful Saturday

I am in Monmouth County, not terribly far from Barnegat. Probably could have checked on it, but as I mentioned, looked like a bomb anyway.

I'm betting that the rear tail work was done not ony to mimick the DAytona, but probably to cover up some serious body damage that they didn't want to or couldn't afford to fix. Take your time and find a better startingpoint. There are plenty of choices out there and this one looks like nothing more than a parts car to me.
