Needle choice is independent of engine size. Any needle you choose will work.

Bruce

Bruce,

I'm on a bit of a budget right now and I'd like to learn more about carbs anyway so I figure rebuilding a set will be good for me. Should I change the needle size for the 2.8L engine or should I stay with the stock size in the carbs I have now?

Hey Bruce,

I'm working on a set of 3-screw wide tab (bulky adjuster nut) and the needles were a little wobly (bent). I went to swap them out for some narrow tab 3-screw needles and noticed they are different sizes. I searched everything in ZTherapy but couldn't find anything on the subject. Is this common??

I think (if memory serves) the wide tab needles were longer than the narrow set. common?

Also, What SU's did the Solid Brass dipsticks come from. Roadster? Picture below show the current progress of my current build.

Sorry to hijack the thread but it is SU related.

Dave.

Dave,

Who knows what somebody might have stuck in there for needles. 2 liter roadster needles were shorter than Z needles. Worked for riching the carbs up top.

Early Z cars had the brass knobs as did all the SU SU's.

Well I finally finished the set for my 240Z. I have triples at the moment but they are so out of whack that I'd prefer the SU's over the Webers, just for tunability. I know my MPH will be better and these will look better until my 3 liter is done being built.

I wet-sanded everything with 400 then 600 grit SP. Then went thru 2) 6" spiral sewn pads. I also tried to polish as much steel as possible. You'll notice, if you look close enough, that I replaced all the screws and bolts with Allen head screws in chrome and stainless steel. I just need to find a Hi RPM idle adjustment plate and pushball for the throttle attachment on the Ballance tube and then they go on. Can't wait.

Well the wife calls me " MR. DING DING" Does that count?

I just got in from installing them. Here's the shots. Just ignore the Choke cables, they were modified to work with my triple webers, now I need another set to replace these ones.

Is that really true? None of the four 1969 production cars I have came with brass knobs (oil filler caps) on the carbs, and they all have the correct 1969 carbs (with no drain on the float bowls and the "mickey mouse ear" tops). Even HLS30-00032 doesn't have brass oil filler knobs and there aren't too many earlier than that. I don't recall any of Jim Frederick's cars with brass knobs either.
