OK. I'm now beating my head against the wall, after conducting numerous searches. My 240 is missing the bracket/mount, whatever you call it, where you attach the bottom of the hatch strut. The early Zs only had one strut, which probably caused a lot of the mounts to break off? I only see two holes where it once was. Was it attached with a bolt, screw or welds? I need a new on so my hatch won't decapitate me!!! Help

The hatch support cylinder mounts with two bolts to the hatch itself. On the body end, there should have been a mount tab welded to the body that has a single hole in it. The cylinder has a pivoting bracket that bolts into the mounting tab. I attached the only picture I could find of the body tab.

havn't seen the bracket sold by itself. Mine actually just popped it's weld over the weekend and came off. I was able to clean it up and screw it back into place through the hols where the weld was alond the drip rail in the hatch. If you do not have the bracket at all the only thing I have seen receintly is...Zeddsaver selling this on ebay.

You could email Norm at Zeddsaver tosee if he sells just the bracket.

Have gone through this problem also. They are spot welded in 3 places, 2 on the drip rail and one on an inner piece of metal. Make sure it goes back in the same place so the strut operates properly & the inner panel cutout lines up. Spot welding the rear spot will not damage any outer paint, but the 2 on the drip rail will, so some paint repair, the weather striping will cover it.

My problem is the vehicle is completely missing the part. It looks like it got some rust in that spot and it broke off. I am planning on getting that piece cut out and re-welded but I don't have the replacement bracket. Maybe someone could measure the dimensions and I could pay for the welder to fab up a replacement piece?

Your best bet (besides resurrecting a very old thread) is to search Ebay, Craigslist, or the classifieds here or on Hybridz.org. Hybridz routinely has part out threads and you could post in such thread asking for the part, or go to the Parts Wanted section and start a new thread.

I made one, it's not too hard, just take some 1" flat stock, Drill a 5/16's hole in the end, and cut it off at about 3". Put it in the vice and bend it over 90 deg. Grind the edges, and weld it in place on each side, Mask and paint it black. Worked fine for me.
