Hello Z owners!

I'm a former 1971 240Z owner and a current 1971 Dodge Challenger owner, that's why my avatar for now is my Challenger. Hopefully that will change soon when I sell the Challenger and find myself a 70 or 71 240Z. The Challenger is a great car but I'm in over my head trying to restore it.

Welcome from antoher Steve! I had a couple of Mopars 'back in the day'. A '70 Duster 340 6-pack and a '64 Plymouth Sport Fury 426 wedge. Fun cars but as I recall they were even expensive to work on back then. I think you'll enjoy this site and maybe even get some help from the guys in finding that 240Z.

Good luck on your hunt, read about the problem areas on the cars here using the search function and words like rust and floor and framerail. Education will keep you from getting in over your head, I am on tip toes with mine!

Excuse me for asking, but what is the price for a challenger these days, there are some Z members in NY, it might be a good idea to catch up with them.

Thanks for the welcome guys. The problem with Challengers and Cudas is they are expensive to restore and run. I'm just out of my league, you need deep pockets or alot of skill and resources which I just don't have. The '71 240Z I had back around 1980 was a great car and much more reasonable to maintain and fix, plus it was a blast to drive, you could actually turn corners unlike the Challenger which doesn't like corners too much, especially in the rain (I found that out with my first Challenger back in High School).

To answer your question, a 1971 Challenger in good shape can go from around $20,000 to over $100,000 depending on engine and model. So I'm gonna see if I can sell mine and then start looking for a 240Z. Steve

Was talking to my parents today and my mom reminded me of the time when she needed to borrow my old 240Z one day and I read her "the list" of things to do such as "manual choke, pump the gas pedal before you start, key comes out even when engine runs, etc, etc, etc"! I guess I was just a bit over-protective of my 240 back then.

On another note, I still have the stick I used to keep the hatch open. Oh yeah! I can't wait until I own another Z! The more I think about it, it was my favorite car.

At least you'll have the stick to keep the back open when you find a new Z

Also, a couple of people on hybridz have dropped the la mopar smallblock V8 straight into Z's with only a custom gearbox mount required. You can have mopar power and Z handling.
