1970Datsun240z Posted April 26, 2009 Share #1 Posted April 26, 2009 Hey, So I have been working on this z for about six months. It's a work in progress and is getting put together. When I got it it was stripped all the way down and had been soda blasted. So me and my dad have been sand blasting all the parts, painting them, and putting them on the car. lonetreesteve Posted April 26, 2009 Share #2 Posted April 26, 2009 (edited) Welcome! You will find a wealth of information at this site with some very knowledgeable and helpful members. Just curious, what is the VIN on your '70 240Z and does its engine number match the number on the data plate? Here's the link to his blog for you computer-challenged members http://zrestoration.blogspot.com/ Edited April 26, 2009 by lonetreesteve Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/31648-hello-i-have-a-240z-project/#findComment-281803 Share on other sites
1970Datsun240z Posted April 27, 2009 Author Share #3 Posted April 27, 2009 The VIN on my '70 240z is HLS30-12161. And the Engine number is 187432. The engine that was originally for my car is still at the person's house that I bought it from. He is using it for his '73 240z but I still might be able to get it. not sure. The engine that I have is an L28 engine. I don't know if it was from a 280z or not because 280z's had L28E engines in them. And the VIN numbers for 280z's started at 200001 and mine is 187432. My engine also has two carburetors and is not fuel injected like all 280z engines were. It's very interesting. Does anyone know how this can be???? P.S. I'm still in the process of cleaning and painting my engine. I plan on painting the block blue. If I were you, I would try really hard to buy the original engine from the seller. However, before you do, make certain that the engine serial number matches the engine number on your car's data plate.
