ID These Wheels Anyone?

Can anyone tell me what these are, I'm thinking that these are what people refer to as the honeycomb wheels?

Appliance Baskets or Appliance Wire Baskets is what they are commonly called around here.. The "honeycomb" wheels were stock on the 81 280XZ as I recall.. but I wouldn't bet much on that..

I only know of early 1970's Pontiac Trans Am's as having what were called "honeycomb" wheels.

They are a vintage basket-weave style, but not Appliance, Western or Keystone. Not ET, either. I can't say that that particular variation is familiar to me. Judging from the style of machining and the center lug area, they might be Superior, Crager or perhaps U.S. Mag. Or some small company who hasn't existed in decades.

That is one sweet looking wheel. I don't believe I've ever seen basket weave that deep.

Oh yeah, I remember those. 15 x 10 most likely. Saw them a lot on musclecars 'back in the day'.

The wheel at the start of the thread is a totally different style than the Appliances. I actually have 14" Appliance on my car.

Differences: The Appliance Wire mag was different than all other basket-weaves in the lip design. There are no steps in the Appliance, they have a smooth ramp from the outer lip to the "spokes". Also note the valve stem hole inset between the spokes in the picture above. The Appliances came with a special 45º angled valve stem for this purpose. And when compared to the wheel that started this thread, the Appliance spokes were flat, no contour change.

Here's a shot of one of the 14x6 Appliances I now have on my car. I've painted the area around the lugs on mine.

Arne has made a real science out of what is or what is not a real Appliance wheel... We should accept no substitute... Kind of like what is or is not a real "Libra" by American Racing...

Glad I said "are commonly called".... rather than "those are".

The wheels in this photo are a similar basket weave style. I believe they were dealer installed in '74 when the car was purchased by the previous owner. The wheels were lost when the car was stolen in 1982.

I always liked the basket weave style on the Z and replaced the originals with Ronal 3-piece modulars in the 80's.

Here is a picture of my 72 when we ran {AIR} 14x7 Appliance Wire Mesh wheels on the front and 13x8's on the rear with Goodyear Bluestreaks for auto-cross duty. The 13's on the rear were short enough to clear the lower spring perch on the stock strut... and they lowered the overall gearing... It was really fun waxing the 911's and Corvettes on the weekend...
