woytovich Posted January 24, 2010 Share #15 Posted January 24, 2010 In an effort to get the car started for the first time I used Marvel Mystery Oil... Is this a REALLY BAD THING? (I've read that it's about 5wt)Should I swap it out for something else?Mark Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/32810-su-carb-damper-oil-question/?page=2#findComment-307246 Share on other sites
SteveJ Posted January 24, 2010 Share #16 Posted January 24, 2010 It's not REALLY BAD, but it would be a good idea to swap out the carb oil with 20 wt. lbpdz Posted January 24, 2010 Share #17 Posted January 24, 2010 I fill mine with a syringe (model plane hobby stores sell them) that way I can get the same amount in each one before the fun of balancing. Walter Moore Posted January 24, 2010 Share #18 Posted January 24, 2010 I have been running synthetic 10W30 for a couple of years because I was too lazy to search for 20 weight oil. It works well enough, certainly much better than ATF. hogie Posted February 3, 2010 Share #19 Posted February 3, 2010 I just replaced the plastic washer under the spring and replaced what appeared to be atf with the all in one 20 wt. Even though everything is now cleaner than before the piston is much harder to compress. Before it didnt take anything to move them up and now it has a lot of resistance like it has a functioning shock absorber. Should it be that hard to move? I am quite sure everything is centered up and the needle isnt dragging. Z-Luke Posted April 4, 2010 Share #21 Posted April 4, 2010 did you ever get the hard-to-compress issue fixed? Mine is that tough to move too. Its also like a shock absorber, no way in hell that venturi air movement is going to lift it. I'm waiting for my rebuild kit to arrive before I start wrecking gaskets.
