g9m3c Posted October 28, 2009 Share #2 Posted October 28, 2009 Wow. That's quite the ambitious goal. Are you going to increase displacement? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/33680-my-budget-s30-turbo-build/#findComment-298808 Share on other sites
sblake01 Posted October 28, 2009 Share #3 Posted October 28, 2009 For starters, you didn't mention anything about how you're going to put that power to the ground, i.e. drive train components, etc. Or what you're going to do to keep from twisting the unibody to a pretzel. What's your time frame and budget for building this car? WTZ? Posted October 28, 2009 Author Share #4 Posted October 28, 2009 For starters, you didn't mention anything about how you're going to put that power to the ground, i.e. drive train components, etc. Or what you're going to do to keep from twisting the unibody to a pretzel. What's your time frame and budget for building this car?Yes, I only posted my engine specs. My car luckily has only minor surface rust on the frame rails. I am reinforcing the body with a full roll cage with bars going from the front of the car connecting to the cage inside. Sorry I don't know the actual term. Transmission: I am using a standard 5 speed from a 280Z which I am already currently using with a 6 puck clutch, Custom Stainless steel clutch line, R33 Clutch Slave Cylinder, and R200 rear end. Suspension: Polyurethane Bushings, Solid Diff Mount, ST front and rear Sway Bars, Custom Coilovers with sectioned struts, Bump Steer Spacers, and Custom Tension Rods.Brakes: Toyota 4x4 calipers (already in the car), Stainless Steel Brake Lines, Rear Disc Conversion, Brake ducting (currently using).Wheels and Tires: 15x10 Panasports, 265 50 15 Hankook Ventus H101 99S (switching to these once I have the motor in).I don't have a timeframe on the build as this is a budget build, The motor is complete but I am still waiting for a few parts before I can drop it in the car. I am hoping I can have the engine in the car by December or January next year. Also, the T3T4 Hybrid turbo will only be used for the break in. I have another turbo to use after that which will help me reach my goal. Let me correct myself, my goal is 550BHP Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/33680-my-budget-s30-turbo-build/#findComment-298811 Share on other sites
zKars Posted October 28, 2009 Share #6 Posted October 28, 2009 Sounds like quite the project. If I have any input is it that you will need a "better" ECU system than the Nissan ECU with "Greddy E-Manage Ultimate" system to tune with. Not that I know anything about Greddy's system. Most the world over at hybridz.org seem to be Megasquirt or Wolf3D fans, but there are more and more options out there everyday. You also will get more enthusiastic and detailed feedback from the gang over at hybridz.org. There is plenty of interest here, but you will get more of what I believe you are looking for over at hybridz. All the best.Jim Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/33680-my-budget-s30-turbo-build/#findComment-298815 Share on other sites

No one gave me advice on my set up and it's been up there since August. Everyone's more interested in my build pictures and updates rather than giving me pointers and all. Not that I have something against them but I'd rather have more gearheads see my build and give me proper advice on things that I may have left off or forgot. EVILC Posted October 28, 2009 Share #8 Posted October 28, 2009 Depends on what you ask over there on hybridz........90% of the questions have been answered twice already. What is your real question? You have said anything about what psi you plan to run at.....standard 5 speed will not hold up to the 550hp you are looking for. Search over on hbz and read through other turbo builds and what hp levels they got to. I am in the process of building a L30et motor. More reading than posting, honestly. More reading than posting, honestly. The question I have is is there anything I missed from my plans. I plan on boosting from 15-20 psi but not with the turbo that I have for the break in. I forgot the specs on the second turbo that I have. I thought the L28 5 speeds can handle up to 600? I have read several builds and I am actually basing most of my plans from other people's. At the same time, I wanted to get input from everybody if there is anything that I overlooked or need to make my build a possibility. WTZ? Posted October 30, 2009 Author Share #10 Posted October 30, 2009 Update: my friend made me a custom aluminum dash with holes drilled for autometer gauges, switches and my Apex Multichecker. I will post pics tonight or tomorrow. My wife is pushing me to have the roll cage done asap since the car is my current DD and I pick her up with the Z from work. She got real shaken up since she was in a car accident yesterday morning. A dumb lady driver was multitasking and rear ended my mom and my wife at 45 mph. They're ok but I will be forever cursing the lady. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/33680-my-budget-s30-turbo-build/#findComment-298984 Share on other sites
