1970Datsun240z Posted November 10, 2009 Share #1 Posted November 10, 2009 My dad and I did this ourselves. I think it looks pretty good for the first paint job I've ever done. I would definitely recommend painting your car yourself. The pride you get from it exceeds any imperfections it may have. Zs-ondabrain Posted November 10, 2009 Share #2 Posted November 10, 2009 Looks good so far. Are you gonna shoot another coat of Clear on there or does it just need to be buffed out? Been wondering what the Blue and white themed motor was gonna go it, for a while now.I also painted my own, first time ever, in my small garage. Very satisfying but now I know every drip, run and bad spot on the car. i'm my own worst enemy.Dave Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/33786-painted-my-240z/#findComment-299921 Share on other sites
1970Datsun240z Posted November 10, 2009 Author Share #3 Posted November 10, 2009 It just needs to be buffed out. We haven't worked on the line we created when we put the stripe on yet. So that will take some polishing.I too know every bad spot on my car. :paranoid: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/33786-painted-my-240z/#findComment-299954 Share on other sites

MEZZZ Posted November 11, 2009 Share #5 Posted November 11, 2009 Congrats, I hope to do my own paint in the spring when the weather turns warm again. Going with a lighter color helps. Post some more pics once you buff/polish. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/33786-painted-my-240z/#findComment-300004 Share on other sites
Oiluj Posted November 11, 2009 Share #6 Posted November 11, 2009 Nice work. Looking forward to seeing the finished product. Post some more pics when it's been buffed-out!I painted a car once and was worthwile experience. It came out OK, but I found out I'm much better at prep than painting... Come to think of it, that's still true today, 25 years later! Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/33786-painted-my-240z/#findComment-300006 Share on other sites
1970Datsun240z Posted November 11, 2009 Author Share #7 Posted November 11, 2009 Thanks guys. I'll post more pics when I've buffed it out. But I have to wait until the paint has cured more. It's still only a couple days old! You can't rush these things.John Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/33786-painted-my-240z/#findComment-300033 Share on other sites
1970Datsun240z Posted January 5, 2010 Author Share #8 Posted January 5, 2010 Here are the pictures I promised. I ended up finishing most of the car before I polished the paint. The only things left are some interior parts! Yeah... I got a little carried away with the polisher on the front of a stripe as you can see... But it's all a learning curve. It was a blast. I miss my aluminum wheels. :disappoin But it's winter and I had to put on the steel wheels with studded tires. It kinda reminds me of a rally car though. Not that I'll be driving it much anyways in the winter. :paranoid: I just put the emblems on tonight. It was really satisfying. Hope you guys like the pics. Oiluj Posted January 5, 2010 Share #10 Posted January 5, 2010 Just re-shoot the blue stripe on the hood and polish again, but with a bit less vigor...Thanks for the pics. Looks good! Thanks! Although that would be a far drive all the way from Arkansas. Just re-shoot the blue stripe on the hood and polish again, but with a bit less vigor...Thanks for the pics. Looks good! Less vigor. A concept I need to grasp. John Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/33786-painted-my-240z/#findComment-305214 Share on other sites
