kjphilippona Posted November 16, 2009 Share #1 Posted November 16, 2009 (edited) I need help identifying this box, as you can see the cover is all but gone and it sits nexto the fusible links directly under the poorly engineered hood vent on the passengers side that does not have a plate to stop water from pouring on to it. Not sure if i have to replace the whole box or if i can get a new cover :disappoin Edited November 16, 2009 by kjphilippona Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/33837-what-is-this/ Share on other sites
Walter Moore Posted November 16, 2009 Share #2 Posted November 16, 2009 It appears to be a relay with a rubber boot to protect the terminals. I will defer to the 280Z experts on its purpose, but I suspect all you need is a new boot, assuming that everything on your car works. Zs-ondabrain Posted November 29, 2009 Share #4 Posted November 29, 2009 (edited) I think that's an A/C relay. I might even have one laying around. I'll check and get back to ya. **OK** found it. But it looks like you'll have to unsolder the wires on your relay to install the rubber boot. I'll give you the whole thing for $6.00 Shipping. PM me if you're interested. Zs-ondabrain Posted December 19, 2009 Share #6 Posted December 19, 2009 place the 2 relays next to each other, you'll see that the soldered terminals should line up. unsolder then all, slide the 280Z wires thru the new boot from the 260Z relay then solder the wires back onto the 280Z relay. That way you're still using a Known good relay with a better looking boot and the correct connector.
